It seems that HP has this option for the 8710W. What am I missing here (besides the fact that according to many people Santa Rosa only supports 4GB)?

You can say you're badass. There's a thread in the hardware section about this too. But maybe Vista (x64) can support more.

Hmm...I don't usually go to the hardware forum, so I posted where it's more logical (to me).
Anyway, Vista x64 indeed supports around 128GB of RAM, but does the chipset?

Usually by going to their page to the 8710W you end up with the same result as me giving you a link. They even offer a single 4GB card.

Thanks, I will take a look. The thing that actually made me starting to wonder if it's possible was the fact that someone from a Sager reseller said that the PM965 can't support more than 2GB per slot (probably true, probably not).

I don't see how they can help since Dell is offering it too (Large Business). 1.299$ isn't a great price to start with, not to mention the fact that even if we are in 2008 not many people have x64 to start with, not even talking about 4GB of RAM. I bet there will be a lot of idiots wanting to get 8GB working with Vista x86 or even XP. It's a good thing Dell is offering it with x64 only.

The only reason they are making it an option is to make even more money. I mean almost every company makes a killing off of selling a laptop with a 4GB RAM, I don't even wanna know how much they are making in profits off of selling a laptop with 8GB of RAM. Nobody will even use close to that much RAM for tasks done on a laptop, it is just a complete waste at this point in technology. I mean I have 4GB in my desktop and I could live with 2GB if I wanted to without any real performance decrease.
