As you can see on http://www.notebookcheck.com/HP-Compaq-8710p.5353.0.html notebook HP 8710p ( GC101EA) hits 4781 points in 3dmark06 benchamark. It's based on the configuration with T7300, 1GB RAM and Vista Business.
I am "the happy owner" of the higher model means HP 8710p GC103EA with T7500, 2GB RAM and XP Pro. In the same 3dmark06 benchamrk my notebook hits 4555 points. Disappointing...
So I changed drivers several times (from stock to 163.44 or from laptopvideo2go.com) and the score remains unchanged (from 4400 to 4555).
So can anyone help me to reach that MYSTERY score 4781 points in 3dmark06? Of course I reinstalled system so it's clean, no bugs.
And there is another curious question about other benchmarks- my notebook
3dmark03 - 15561 points (1666 points better than GC101EA)
3dmark05 - 9465 points (395 points better than GC101EA)
PCmark05 - 4816 points (279 points worse than GC101EA)
What's is going on bad with may notebook - after all it has better configuration
-
Such a big problem.... it's a real disaster.
Really, what are you planning on doing with these points? 200 points more or less... what gives?
Plus, it might be Vista <-> XP or drivers related... -
thats a 4% fluctuation. Could just be German electricity, maybe they put something special in it.
-
sorry but i doubt anyone could have anything more constructive to say other than what Dreamer said.
although maybe the tested resolution could be slightly different? But probably not since its the same notebook with the same screen -
of course
- it's not even a litlle problem, it's not a problem at all, I'm over 30 and use that notebook at work, but ... I'm simply want to make it clear - Why the better configuration makes less points?
It might be Vista <-> XP or drivers related, but notebookcheck.com made that test on XP. And I tried about ten various drivers
It might be resolution, but they tested it with 1280x1024 so did I.
and the difference 5% is more dissapointing, because my notebook costs in my country (Poland) nearly 300$ more than GC100EA or GC101EA. So it makes me a little bit nervous
don't left me strandedbut if really there is no other solutions I'm takig a flyer

4550 is still a damn good score...
back ground programs maybe????
I wouldn't complain about the score at all if i were you...... -
Alright, you're asking us why someone, somewhere gets a few more points than you do.... how could I answer this question?... besides the usual answers about the drivers, clean install...etc.
Btw, there will be a review of the HP 8710p on this site very soon, so you will be able to compare your scores with it... -
as I mentioned above - it's not a problem for me, 4555 is GREAT score, I agree, but... there is still a difference 5%
ok, thanks for replies, I'm waiting for the review on this site. I'm really wonder the results -
Couple of things I've noticed...
1) Vista sucks a few hundred points off a score. I tested it.
2) Quadro drivers suck a little out as well.
3) You might be running software(s) that is degrading the score.
All in all, I gained like 700 3dMark 05 points in my notebook by installing the GeForce drivers (my card now looks like a 8700GT to the OS) and going with XP. You might want to consider doing the same.
-
Hey Greg, do you like this notebook or you're planning on replacing it soon.. oh may be next year.. lol.. OK, I'm joking.
Really, I know what it is but still anything that bothers you?
How's the "switch" from 15 to 17" notebook? And, you got the glossy screen ...good/bad? -
1. Reinstalling system: XP Pro
2. Changing drivers
3. Installing Quadro as 8700GT and the card looks like 8700GT to the OS.
4. Switching off all running software
The last thing I want to do is to install Vista Business like in the GC101EA - maybe 64bit makes difference? But it would be madness...I'm not so desperate
So now I'll be waiting for the review on this site -

The machine they reviewed at notebookcheck had a 1400x900 WXGA+ LCD. Unless they plugged in an external display, this means that their 3DMark06 ran at 1280x800. You (the OP) have a WSXGA+, so your 3DMark06 is probably running at 1280x1024. If both of these conditions are true then the resolution difference accounts for the difference in points.
-
Anyway, I didn't realize you are probably running at a higher resolution in 3dMark...so yes, that could account for the difference. I'll look up my score in a little while and get back to you. -
That's great news

I'm getting about 4440 with 4GB RAM (3GB visible) in 3DMark05 on XP, a little less under Vista. So their score is definitely affected by the lower resolution.

Italiano too!

So my score 4555 with 2GB RAM on XP is pretty good
HP 8710p disappointing benchmark
