On the registration, it calls for a "current, incoming, or college bound to an accredited college or university" student. If I am correct in the definition of college-bound, I meet the requirements to register as a high school student. However, my problem is that when choosing my school affiliation, only colleges and universities are listed. Am I supposed to choose a school that I am hoping to enter after I graduate?

Here is a link for further clarification:

    Thanks for your help. :)

College bound student as in going to college within 2 months. If you're like a sophomore in high school and you think you're "college bound" then you're not going to get a discount.

How do you not know what college you'll be attending? It's already June 27!

Alright, I guess I was wrong in my definition of college bound. I'm a senior but I guess I can have my brother register for me. Thanks for your actually useful post.

If you're a senior, as in you graduated last month, then just register with the college you've been accepted to - I didn't register until after I sent in my housing deposit. If you're a senior, as in you were a junior last month, then you'll need to wait until you've been accepted to an accredited university at which point you can register with it.

My question is how do they know? How do they know I am registered to this university. I didn't try to cheat them cause I am going to school next year, but it just seems so easy to just lie.

Usually the best practice is to sign up with a .edu address from the university that you attend. Using outside email addresses often prompts them to contact you and verify your affiliation with the university you claim to attend.

Cool, maybe you got lucky. I wonder what the ramifications are if they do catch someone signing up and taking advantage of the discount while not affiliated with a university or if they even care.

I never even really thought about it because I am in school and have 4 different .edu addresses. I'm not much on commiting myself to one school. :p

Here's another question: How does one go about adding HPA to an existing HP account? The "sign up for HP Academy" thingummy won't accept my information since I already have an account through this address, and I can't find anything on the site that adds HPA to an existing account.

I'm about to give in to the Envy 14, but with BCB and the education discount at the same total, I might as well use the education discount instead, and I am a qualified alumnus.

Hmm, already got one of those, but I'd rather keep it on my current account. I actually bought a computer in '04 with the student discount, though I don't remember if I used this email address or an older one (definitely have an account on the older address, but it's not got HPA discounts active). If nothing else comes up, I guess I'll just use my alternate gmail address, but that will be a slight bummer, as it'll force me to switch logins to an otherwise unused account.

Okay, for those who have the same question - I just added the HPA discount to my account via live chat. The rep says they can switch an account to HPA and back (in case you'd rather get a coupon/bcb discount in the future). She didn't offer any suggestions for making the switch to HPA without speaking to a representative, and she said that removing HPA required a rep - there's no way to do it yourself on the site.

You'll have to provide the name and zip code of your school (city, state might be enough), your status there, your billing address, and your phone number. It took about five minutes for me, and that was with a couple other questions thrown in. Pretty painless really, unless you get stuck waiting for a rep.

New question - the rep said that HPA has been added to my account. I signed out and signed back in, but when I go to the Envy 14 config page, it still says 1099... How do I get the discount to apply?

You have to log in, remove that computer from your cart go back to configure a new one and it will show all the discounted prices.

It didn't take the first time. The second rep thinks it was because I was logged in at the time.

When it did take, my previously-configured E14 failed to process, even though it registered the discounts properly. I removed it and reconfigured and it worked just dandy.

    Hey Everybody,

I don't want to be shady here so I will let you all know I work for HP up front.

To answer your HP Academy question: You can register under whatever school you are planning to go to. HP Academy has been opened up to all students, especially college bound seniors.

We are actively adding new schools everyday (there are a lot out there), if you can't find your school give us a call at 1-800-632-8251 and we will get you registered and can even get your school added to the list if it is missing.

Also check out the HP for Students Facebook page that has answers to this question and also notifies you about additional coupon deals and giveaways.
