I recently installed Ubuntu 11.04 on my Envy 15, and it has been working like a charm. Except for one thing, the audio. While audio itself works, the speakers sound especially tinny (not just playing music, but everything, from movies to youtube clips).

Now I was wondering if anyone had any luck installing different drivers in Ubuntu for the Beats audio system, or perhaps it is just a 'simple' rearrangement of equalizer sliders somewhere?

Any help would be much appreciated, it's the last thing that is withholding me from enjoying Ubuntu to it's fullest.

Linux in general is very crappy when it comes to drivers... I'd be happy with having any sound coming out of the speakers. May be you can improve your sound, or make it sound better by trying alsa-mixer configuration. Look around in the web, there's plenty of documentation for this issue. Before having my Envy 15, i owned an HP Pavilion dv6920la, on which i had both XP and 7, and also Ubuntu. I had to reinstall twice Ubuntu due to sound driver issues (it came with Realtek HD codec)... After that I learnt that you don't have to mess with drivers in Ubuntu. If you try to update your in-box drivers with the newer ones from intel, EVEN if they say they're intended to work on Linux OSs, you might get a non-working device.
Did you have any troubles installing Ubuntu? With SATA drivers or something like that? Also, did you keep Windows 7? Or you just did a clean install, with formatting included?
