I have an HP dv2000 laptop. Recently the two hinges broke. I took it to repair it, they told it'd cost me $170 which was too expensive. So, i looked at Ebay and they sell the hinges for $3 for two hinges. But the guy said that he needs to replace the whole frame, which didn't make any sense because only the hinges are broken. So, what should i do? And what do i need to change, the hinges only are something else? Any links would be really appreciated.

HP announced a problem with the notebook hinges on the DV2000, DV6000, and DV9000.
Call an HP case manager at 1 877 917 4380, extension 94.
Make sure you mention that you are a first time caller and you are experiencing a problem with the HP repair center.

They have stories from people who had similar problems as you.
P.S. Be sure to update this post with the end result. -
I thank you very much! But, i'm not in the USA, so i can't send it there it would take too much time. But, i bought the hinges from Ebay for only $1 for both of them! So, i'll repair it myself instead of paying $170! Again, i thank you very much!

NEVER BUY COMPAQ OR HP COMPUTERS or suffer...
I have a Compaq Presario model V5205NR, and its hinges are designed to fail.
I contacted HP case manager Azmindia at 1 877 917 4380, extension 93. She was incredibly rude, just kept saying its out of warranty. They don't care that its a manufacturing defect.
She prefers I take them to Small Claims court, she bragged HP has many attorneys and that I wouldn't be able to afford one - meaning they are a multi-Billion dollar company so they can afford a fight and hiring an attorney would be expensive for me.
But hey, one doesn't need to hire an attorney for any court especially small claims court.
Now can anyone who has experience tell me how to file a claim in court over the hinge faliure - .
I ASKED her , who is the Registered Agent to Serve Notice, HP refused to tell me.
I am really upset and I will sue them, but I have no experience on how to get the lawsuit against HP going.
HP is so stupid, they don't mind spending allot more then the computer costs to fight little joe! They think we are bluffing and won't actually sue.
I advise everyone, to sue HP over your Hinge Defect. You will feel better and do a public service for other consumers. -
Calm down there champ.
Did you purchase an extended warranty when you first got the notebook or did you just think "OH! nothing could possibly go wrong so I will just pretend the inevitable won't happen?"
They created warranties for this reason. Do you have medical insurance? If you broke your leg, do you go yelling at god for giving you a defective leg? How would you return yourself?
Medical insurance and warranties are the same thing (practically). If you get hurt, they cover medical expenses. If your laptop starts melting down, then the warranty would cover the defective parts. HOWEVER, if you don't have medical insurance, then you're obligated to assess your bills. You'd be outraged, but you understand that they are YOUR expenses. Same concept with these two examples.
As for a suit, go browse the forum. Someone else successfully filed a suit and was awarded a decent sum. However, he was under warranty and you are not. Legally, you would not be granted anything and you would lose the money that it takes to initiate a suit. If the case went through and HP had to show up for this losing case, HP could file a counter suit for compensation. You would end up an even sadder person.
I hope you learned a lesson... -
There is a way to handle these situations and your way was completely wrong.
