OK, I've been thinking about purchasing an HP Compaq nx9420.
I've read a few threads on this forum about the HP Business class build being as good/almost as good to the build quality of Lenovo.
However, I have little to no experience with Lenovo, and the only notebooks I have any experience with are Dell's.
So, could someone please enlighten me as to how the build quality of the nx9420 will compare to a basic Dell Latitude? Better, worse, similar?

I haven't had personal experience with HP's business line, but my dad uses them for his crazy engineering stuff. Comparing the build and reliability of his HPs with the Dell Lats many of my friends use, HP wins across the board.

how does hp's quality compare to the d620 / d820 ?
dell "seemed" to improved the quality quite a bit, though i have no personal experience.
maybe the mod who reviewed the d620 could comment
thanks. -
Thanks for your reply!
Yeah, I was talking previous Dell Latitudes and also previous and current Inspiron lines, which I neglected to mention...
So, the HP Business are built pretty solid?? I'm going to be a college student, so obviously durability is a concern. -

HP has a very solid business lineup. I'm also a fan of the Dell Latitudes, however.
I work with a Dell D810 at work. It's a solid, well put together machine. It is plastic, but there is no flexing anywhere. The keyboard is great and the screen is very sharp.
HP's business line is better built, and more professional looking in my opinion. Their notebooks are a bit more solid.
Service with Dell - we have the onsite service, it's very good. The techs come next day if we have a problem, and usually fixes the machine right there. We haven't had any problems with the newer ones lately.
I don't think you can go wrong with either.

Don't go by brand, go by OEM manufacturer.
Trick is, to find out who makes what.
I know some of HP's manufacturer's for their models, not sure what models in Dell are made by who. -
Comparing the V2000z from Compaq with the XPS M140 from Dell I have to say that the Dell is 200% better built than the Compaq...keyboard is less noisy, sturdier construction, cover hinges stronger, etc...

Wonder if Quanta makes one of those units, or both. Since they make units for both companies.
