Does HP offer a business/elitebook with a 'good' LED screen, and HDMI port, I don't see it on any current models but heard maybe the refresh coming up may include these features?

Do they run hot; too hot to use on your lap?

I've never seen one in person, how is the wieght/bulkiness?

Finally how good or bad are their Brightview or LED screens.

    Thanks!

I don't know about LED screens, but a lot of them currently feature HDMI outs.

I have one of their older business notebooks, the HP Compaq nw8440. That model has since been replaced by the HP Compaq 8510w, and now by the HP EliteBook 8530w.

My machine gets slightly warm on the left side (perfectly fine on the lap), unless I'm gaming or doing other benchmarks (then it gets way too hot for your lap). The GPU in it was very powerful for its time, however (it uses the ATi Radeon X1600 core), so I'll let that slide.

The nw8440 was very thin and light for a 15.4", especially considering the GPU it had. Ditto to the 8510w and 8530w models. I'm not sure about their other notebooks, though.

I have not used one with a BrightView or LED screen, but try to get those options if you can. The 15.4" Matte-finished WUXGA display on my nw8440 is quite dim (always has been), so I'd try to avoid the non-LED screens. I'm not a fan of BrightView either, mainly because of the glare.

    1. When will these notebooks become configurable?
    2. Will there be a 8730p? (the only difference will be the graphics card, probably Ati HD3870, and the price).

    Thanks. ;)

There's not a lot of info out there about HP's business notebooks, what I've read about them seems mostly positive.

I'd like to try a thin/light 14 or 15" HP/Compaq business notebook with LED screen and HDMI port.

    Is there such a thing?

I ordered one a week ago and will probably get it around 10. -17. 10. COnfigurable models should be avaliaable shortly after that. As you can see on their website there is already "Configurable" button but there are no laptops avaliable just yet.

Don't know about 8730p but I doubt it becouse only logical thing to do would be to introduce it simultaneously with 8530p/w and 8730w. They didn't. But I could be wrong.

As far as I'm aware HP doesn't have any laptops with LED screen. For now...

I don't think the LED screen is offered along with the HDMI option. Only Elitebooks with a 14.1" screen or smaller offers LED LCD which HP calls "illumilite". HP replied that this is due to current limitations in technology. The 8530p Elitebook to my knowledge is the smallest Elitebook to offer an HDMI output, but the Illumilite option is not available at the time of writing.

The heat level seems acceptable to use on my lap but it does get pretty warm, this is the 6930p with the Radeon HD3450.

I looked at both the 6930p and 8530p at a roadshow and the 8530p is actually thinner than the 6930p. They don't feel bulky but I do think they are a bit on the heavy side compared to similar classes of notebooks.

Brightview seems to be offered only in their non-Elitebook series. The LED screens are definitely nicer than the normal screens, it looks brighter, and the white colors look less yellowish when the display is on a dim brightness setting. However, looking at the specs show that the LED screens have a lower contrast ratio than the non LED counterparts. I'm not sure if this is because the units are specified as "true contrast" or "dynamic contrast" for the different LCDs.
