Me again~
So as some of you are sick of hearing, I'm waiting til June/July to buy a new HP. I'm pretty knowledgeable when it comes to PCs but not HARDCORE know-it-alls like most of you.
Since pricing is one of my issues (I'm 17 working at Abercrombie & Fitch, haha), I was wondering when the new Montevina lineup comes out, will the prices be higher than the current models or will they stay the same ? I noticed that Apple came out with new updated hardware yet all the prices stayed the same (i think)
Let's say I couldnt wait and just went ahead and bought my non-montevina DV2700TSE (Verve). What exactly would I be missing out on hardware-wise ? I don't exactly know what Montevina and DDR3 will do but i'm guessing it'll probably have something to do with faster and more efficient hardware ?
And while we're at it, any guesstimations on the new lineup announcements ? I heard they make them a couple weeks before they're actually released. More toward June or July ? Cuz i want my laptop in time before I leave for college so if I ordered late July, i'd probably have to get it shipped to my dorm with build times and all, we'll see. Planning on snagging one of those $500 off $1399 deals, haha.
And another random thought that I'm curious about (sorry ><). How safe is it to run OSX Leopard on my HP-to-be? And does it really work like a mac ? If I wanted to do iChat with a friend, it would work fine ? Not something i'm really looking into but more of a curiosity. I may try it in the future but seeing as how little I know about PCs, it'll be in the relatively DISTANT future.
THANX

If I were you, I would do your research on a laptop purchase decision, and just go with what you can afford or what your budget allows now. Quite frankly, you can't do any better than what HP (or any other manufacturer) is currently offering, which is the new T9xxx series Penryn processors and Santa Rosa technology.
Make a purchase, be happy with it, and know that waiting around for new tech is like playing musical chairs. The music always starts and stops, leaving you searching for that next best thing. -
Alright thanks for that.
I really dont know what i'll gain processor wise so I dont really care what i'm missing out on on that part.
But like things I could possibly get and know what they do and the convenience they'll offer (like backlit keyboard, led backlit screen, better camera etc etc) are the things i'm really looking forward to in the new lineup.
So that's the main reason i'm having trouble deciding to buy now or later ?!?!? ARGHH -
the only thing you have to gain really by waiting till July is getting a better price, which may not happen. I wouldn't expect to see a HUGE change in HPs line in the next little while, they will probably release them late in the year around the holidays like they did before.
Your also just not going to see LED LCDs and backlight keyboards put into the dv2000/6000/9000 series. They will probably have them in some form on the dv3000/7000/10000 or their equivalent. The only thing you really have to look forward to in the next little while is the launch of AMDs new CPUs which are rumored not to be that competitive with the C2D and possibly the inclusion of some of the new ATi GPUs, but thats just speculation.
That 2700se Verve will probably be gone pretty soon. Checkout the 2800se Artist Edition which is what replaces it. If its really bugging you get one now but if not save till July. At worst you will be able to get a loaded one, at best you could find a better deal. I think Bestsell had a 2800se on for like $779, but that was an AMD one. -
Get the Verve. It Rocks!

Thanx again
