lately I've discovered that the computer I've set my heart on, the hp dv8000t, has a few problems. I don't believe it's worth the hassle anymore. However there is the NX9420 business notebook which is very comparable and as far as I know does not have the keyboard problems of the former. I also recently learned I will also need this notebook for work as well so it seems a good fit. There is still the matter of dealing with HP's customer service so I thought I might bypass that in buying from somewhere like BUY.com with a decent reputation and their own warranty/repair plan. The downside is I can't customize, but life isn't perfect. Any thoughts on this? i'd like the opinion of experienced members, thank you.

My backup would be the DELL e1705 or Toshiba P105, though I hear they both run hot, I could always buy a chill mat.

The HP business line has a different warranty and support system from HP's consumer line. It seems like business users are treated better and have a much longer warranty then the consumer line.

I agree... differant support system, Plus the business line models stay in production longer. (longer product cycles)

PS: I've got a dv8000t and the keyboard is fine.

Before jumping ship, you might want to read this:

Toshbia rates as the worse in customer service.

Another thing.. on the Dell 1705, I have considered that one also, but I read so many posts of people getting crappy screens, having 3 -4 lcd panels fail, have 3-5 motherboard replacements, dying dvd drives, etc it's not funny.

I don't see the number, the type of reports on the HP boards.
