HP/COMPAQ Presario F760EF : Upgrade from VISTA to XP

This machine is sold with VISTA Family Premium, but with this system is slow and buggy, even with SP1....

Hp/Compaq does not provide any XP driver.

I spend 4 days to upgrade from Vista to XP SP2, 100% successfull, so in case you want to do it, here is the way... With XP, it's a very good and fast PC for a low price....

Specs:

- Proc : AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor TK-53 (1700Mhz) (L1: 128ko L2: 256ko)
- Motherboard : Quanta 30EA 86.09
- Chipset : NVIDIA 630a ( Northbridge: AMD-8131, Southbridge: NVIDIA MCP67)
- Graphic Card : nVidia Corporation GeForce 7000M / nForce 610M (rev a2)
- Hard Disk : WDC WD1200BEVS-60UST0 01.01A01 (SATA, 111.79 Go)
- Ethernet : nVidia Corporation:MCP67 Ethernet
- WIFI :Atheros AR5006X Wireless Network Adapter
- Sound : Conexant HD-Audio SmartAudio 221 (Hermosa, not Venice),
...also Fax Modem, webcam, but absolutely no difficulty with them...


[ proceed with ALL the steps below one by one, and keep the sound driver the last one... ]


#0. [XP SP2 installed from native SP2 CD on formatted HD, no problem. (..Tried SP3 and don't like it..)]


#1. Install chipset: 630a chipset [ NOT 630i , Ethernet controller problems.... ]
=> Use nforce_630a_14.10_winxp_english_whql.exe and install it WITHOUT graphic adapter

(this package install network controller and other devices...)


#2. Graphic Adapter
=> NVIDIA 32bit ForceWare GeForce Go 156.55

#3. Google kb888111xpsp2 and install it (very easy...)


#4. Install Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio
=> sp32646 from HP http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...ob-45958-1&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=1817059


#5. Install Atheros WIFI driver : Atheros AR5006X Wireless Network Adapter ( mine is v7.6.0.200 04/2008, easy to find...)

#7. If possible, use Windows Update => "Custom Scan" "hardware items" => install processor upgrade, & update for Synaptics. (reboot)


#8. Install finally the Sound Driver : I made one with 3 others,
particularly a Toshiba recent one : http://rapidshare.com/files/117432956/Conexant_Driver_Hermosa_Cx20561_v3.47_XP.zip.html


Don't use installer with this one !! Unzip it in a folder, and select the device with yellow mark, property, driver, etc, etc, chose "Have Disk", and use the folder where WiSVHe5.inf is....


On the four days I spent tu upgrade from Vista to XP, the last three ones were to make the microphone working, so don't forget to check it at the end .....

If you follow these steps, you will have absolutely no problem, and a great PC.....

.... désolé, je n'étais pas revenu sur le forum...

.... oui, quand je dis qu'il ne faut pas utiliser l'installeur, ça veut dire qu'il faut utiliser la procédure manuelle pour l'installation d'un driver.....

- Aller dans le gestionnaire de périphériques,
- cliquer droit sur le périphérique concerné, (qui a une marque jaune s'il n'a pas de driver)
- choisir Propriétés, Pilote, mettre à jour le pilote,
- choisir "Installer à partir d'une liste ou d'un emplacement..."
- choisir "Ne pas rechercher, je vais choisir le pilote etc....."
- Cliquer le bouton "Disque Fourni", et naviguer jusq'au répertoire où on a dézippé le driver, et en particulier le fichier .inf qui est le descripteur d'installation qui sera lu par XP....

Voilà..... Pour la petite histoire, on va bientôt installer XP sur le 4ème F760EF, tous achetés dans une grande surface qui commence par Au et finit par chan...... Aucun problème et jolie petite machine, si on ne recherche pas une formule 1....

J'ai le meme portable et j'ai tout comme vous essayer d'installer XP pro dessus a la place de vista. j'ai suivi pas a pas les differantes étape (sauf la #7 j'ai pas reussis oO).

mais je n'arrive pas a installer la carte son meme en passant par le gestionnaire de périphérique. sa me dit "Le materiel n'a pas été installer car l'assistant ne trouve pas le logiciel nécessaire". :s


vous n'avez pas une idée d'ou cela peut venir ? et si c'est a cose de windows update vous pouvez m'expliquer exactement comment faire s'il vous plais ? je suis desespérer :s

 

Me revoilà quelques mois plus tard avec toujours le même problème ... personne n'a d'idée ?
