Most notebooks are made in China...I'm not surprised. When I got both my old zx5000 and zd7000, they both originated from China. My Dell M140 (and my 700m) was from China, and my HP nc8430 was from Tennessee...but undoubtedly most of the parts came from China.

Yes, as noted, almost all laptops nowadays are actually made in China. In fact, there are only a handful of laptop manufacturers. Compal, for example, is one and make laptops (to the companies specifications) for companies such as HP and Dell.

Right, this is normal, Dell flies a couple of Jumbo jets from Malaysia each week full of notebooks that have been assembled. I'm guessing HP charters a couple of Jumbo jets themselves to ship assembled CTO notebooks to the USA for final delivery.

My Compaq was from China. I think most laptops come from China or somewhere over in Asia.

1 cent a day? MM.. I think I paid way more than that for my dv2000t ..

On the other hand, have anyone of you receive the rebate checks yet? I mailed it out like late Sept, and so far, no response of what so ever from HP.

Rebate checks take at least 6-8 weeks so no surprise you haven't gotten yours yet. Also, they have to be filled out "exactly" to specifications.
