When I hit caps lock on my 6910p, two other quick button items on the button-less button panel light up (enable/disable).
So I press caps lock, and the laptop mutes and runs the HP system information program.
I see the orange mute light up, and the hp system info program turn green and run. I then have to hit the orange mute or the green system info or use windows to enable sound and close the hp system info.
Caps lock does come on though...
Has anyone else encountered this?

ARom, did you ever get to the bottom of this problem? I'm having the same problem with a Compaq 6910p laptop, whereby the sound goes poppy and the lights on the volume touch bar shoot up and down as soon as you hit Caps Lock.
I've tried updating the BIOS and installing the latest drivers but I don't think it's a software fault, as when I go into the BIOS (or am in the Windows boot menu) the lights still flash if I hit Caps Lock.
I'm not sure if I need to post a new thread as this is old, so will do that as well, but if you got it sorted it'd be great if you could feedback on how you fixed it!
Thanks -
It's either a bad keyboard or a bad motherboard. I'd try to replace the keyboard first for obvious cost reasons.
I have a known bad mobo in my dv9000 and it sometimes makes the numpad act like it's on a model without a dedicated numpad - pressing Num Lock, besides activating the dedicated numpad, also brings up a numpad in the middle of the keyboard. It does the same with either keyboard (i have a spare one). But you may be luckier. -
No, the problem was with the LED power bar. It's about £50 for a replacement, so I just opened up the laptop and disconnected the ribbon connecter that connected it to the motherboard. The laptop works fine now, we just have to adjust the volume levels in the Windows volume control panel.
Apparently the failure with that part is a known problem in these models. -
It's just a bunch of LEDs on a piece of plastic, i'm sure you can find it cheaper somewhere. 50 pounds seems kinda steep to me. Even if those were US$, it'd still be much. I was thinking somewhere around 30.

Yeah, there were a few sellers on Ebay in the US doing it for about $10, but I couldn't find any alternatives in the UK and I've tried two different suppliers and both quoted about £50 delivered. Not worth it when it still works!
