I'm going to be ordering a Dv6tSE today and I want this laptop to last me 4 years (through college), so I figure getting a warranty with it would be wise. Right now I have the HP 2-year Care Pack Pick Up and Return Service for HP Pavilion Laptop PC in my cart at $110. I can't find much on the usefulness of these, or how good they are, what are some opinions on here? Is it even necessary?

To me, they are priceless (and expensive). Get the ADP (accidental damage protection), else get nothing and go self insured.

IMHO, they are much better than store and 3prd party warranties.

i think the rule of thumb is that for every 500 dollar you spent on the laptop, you should 1 year of warranty. So a $999 laptop = 2years, $1499 = 3years, and so on. Plus if you are buying with a Visa/Mastercard you also get 1 more year on top of what you have.

I believe all costco computer comes with 2 year warranty provide by the store. don't qoute on it though.

You could buy the laptop and it could die in 30 days, or 1 year and 1 day; or could last for 4 without a hitch. I personally find some computer experience + internet more valuable than a warranty. However if you'd rather get it fixed than just upgrading to the latest and greatest I wouldn't recommend more than 2 years of coverage

That Costco warranty seems amazing for the price, why so cheap I wonder? I don't have a Costo nearby, I wonder if that's a problem...
