What is this GMA950? It must be way better than GMA900 or otherwise what will be the point of having a dual core processor...
I'm looking forward to seeing preliminary reviews or remarks

    Edit: Actually I found one:
    here

684 on 3Dmark05 is not impressive.

A dual-core 32-bit notebook with a weak GPU that isn't even DirectX9 capable when Vista is coming within a year. Where's the market for this?

They seem to have updated QuickPlay software, hopefully, they can play media off of the hard drive in additon to the optical drive.

I think it does support Directx 9. In the review I read, the authors argued that the sole purpose of this gpu is to enable the cheapest Centrino config to run Vista at good settings. It's obvious that recently ATI x200 gets many customers away from Intel's notebooks because of the eventual Vista support.

I stand corrected. It's still an extremely weak GPU though, going by the ExtremeTech review link above, so I still recommend getting an ATI 200M or better instead of an Intel GPU.

Huh, well isn't this a real darn shame, Intel releasing new integrated graphics which STILL can't take full advantage of Vista's graphical capabilities.

Actually, I don't see anything amazing with Vistas graphical abilities, the only thing I saw were transparent windows, and you need a powerful GPU for that!? Please, $(#@ Vista, XP is just fine for me anyways.

Its cool how the DV1000T at least has the option for an integrated webcam and microphone, not sure about the V2000T.

Actually it seems that Intel has been trying to reassure everyone for a while now tha GMA 950 should be able to run Aero. I believe that was their whole point behind developing the new integrated graphics, because MS flatly refused to modify LDDM (Longhorn Display Driver Model) simply to accomodate GMA 900. That's kind of why I've been holding off buying a dv1000 until now. I don't need powerhouse graphics capability, but I would still like to be able to run 32-bit Vista at something at least better than rock bottom settings. Hopefully the dv1000t will fit that bill nicely. Only time will tell...

Good, I was waiting for that. But can't there be a way to install this newer QuickPlay on older HP models with QuickPlay??? :(

So does anyone have any insight to how long until HP will have a 15/15.4" Core Duo laptop? Something like the dv4000..or even a dv4000 with no new features besides the new Intel chips. (Of course, with a X1400 or X1600.)

Alright, there are too many threads on this topic, I already speculated on this once, since I can't comment officially. Look to the early spring timeframe for other refreshes with core duo from HP. And yes, those will include new GPU options.

I e-mailed the sales department at HP Shopping and asked when the pricing information & pre-order for the dv1000t would be available. I noted that Gateway and Dell are taking orders for Dual-Core Laptops. From their response, I think the following is true:

    A) Their department (Sales) was just told recently about the dv1000t. Apparently, the people in HP who design the laptops keep everything *hush**hush* until its ready to be sold.
    B) As far as they know, no 15.4" HP Core Duo Laptop is planned to be released...
    But they also implied that...
    C) The Sales Department isn't notified until right before the product is to be put up for sale..

So from this, I can conclude that if a 15.4" HP Core Duo Laptop is to be released, it won't been "Coming Soon"

And they also don't know (or wouldn't tell me) approximate dates the dv1000t will be available for purchase. And they don't know (or wouldn't tell me) the pricing on it either.

Pretty funny that the HP sales department could have so little information!!

And also, I found that the company policy In "About Us" -> "Student Information" -> "Information Restrictions":
    http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/abouthp/studentinfo/proprietary.html

"Nonpublic product details: We cannot reveal internal details regarding existing, new or proposed products or processes. Public product information is available online."

So trying to find out if they are going to release a 15.4" Widescreen Centrino Duo is going to be a rock solid dead-end unless they post it on their website.

The sales department basically told me to subscribe to the electronic newsletter delivered via e-mail for rebates, and new product releases.

I hate the fact that HP and compaq always use crappy/weak GPU for most of their notebooks. A new dual core notebook but with intel's integrate again  c'mon HP

Sony s coming with a new (expensive) dual core notebook but with "NVIDIA GEFORCE GO 7400"

At least HP should have an option to upgrade the GPU......

Maybe it is because the intel integrated stuff is easier to assemble and so they're usually the first products out the door..

I definitally agree. Even just a X600 on the dv1000t would make me very happy. I would buy it in a second. I was looking at Gateway laptops and they're shipping Core Duo processors on February 6th with X1400 processors, but I read of nightmares regarding Gateway (ie: They don't even offer drivers on their website for their own products!!! [Unconfirmed] )
I'd like to buy my laptop from HP. I've been buying quality products from them for years. I really really wish that they would have exactly what I was looking for, but they don't.
Very very very close... But not quite... Its rather frustrating really.

Interesting, but those are all gaming benchmarks. Who in their right mind is going to seriously try gaming on an IGP in the first place?

The current QuickPlay can play music cds, dvd movies and music stored on the hard drive in the my music folder only.
I want to see QuickPlay be able to view photos as well on cds dvds and the hard drive, play vcd movies and be able to view all media files on the hard drive without putting them into folders like "My Music, "My Photos", etc.

dv1000t Review by PC Magazine (1/5/06):
    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1907126,00.asp

Summary (provides information not available on HPShopping):
    Integrated webcam is 0.3 megapixels

"Using the Intel Core Processor Duo T2500 (2.0 GHz) and 1GB of RAM, the dv1000 performed extremely well on our SYSmark 2004 SE benchmark tests. It outdid the Pavilion dv4000 by 35 percent on one and 20 percent on the other. "

"The dv4000 offers discrete graphics with the ATI Mobility Radeon X700; at our publishing deadline, HP was still out on whether the dv1000t would also offer discrete graphics."

"The only portion of our tests that didn't quite impress was battery life. MobileMark 2005 scored only 3 hours 37 minutes using the six-cell battery. The same system managed a score of 3:45 using the previous-generation Centrino."

    "Price: $1,873.00"

    OUCH!! Expensive!

well what do you expect. it's just new. of course it's gonna be expensive. however, that $1873 price tag could be for now. it'll sure be cheaper in the future. maybe some electronic retail stores will have it cheaper.
