Hi,
HP shows that there is a new HP Compaq 6735b laptop on their site:
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF25a/321957-321957-64295-321838-89315-3687779.html
Does anybody know how it is? Looks nice.
But what interests me the most is the fan noise. Is it ok?
I currently own a Compaq nc8430 but am getting crazy as soon as I start working seriously, despite tools to control the fans (nhc).
Thanks for any info.

As far as I can tell, it looks like a restyled 6715b, so I'm guessing that it'll have similar fan behavior to the 6715b. With that said, I don't know how the fan behaves on the 6715b, nor do I know for sure that it'll even be the same as the 6715b.
However, it will almost certainly be quieter than your nc8430. Believe me, I own an nw8440 (ISV certified nc8430), and almost every notebook I've played with has a quieter fan (except for my dad's old P4M Gateway Solo 600. That thing can actually drown out my laptop completely!), so I totally understand how noisy those models get.
That said, I didn't mess with NHC, since the fan doesn't really bother me. Go figure! (I think I'm just used to noisy notebooks; who knows?) -
I was debating between the 6735b and the dv5z. But at the time I was looking, the 6735b was only available in a few preconfigured models and none of them had what I wanted, so I ordered the dv5z and it should arrive tomorrow. Now I see that the 6735b is fully configurable on the web site, but when I just put one together there it said it would take 3 weeks or so to build. So all in all I guess I'm better off with the dv5z. At this point the only thing the 6735b has that I'd want is the anti-glare screen, instead of the glossy screen the dv5z comes with. Oh, and also you can order the 6735b *without Windows* or any other Microsoft crap. Wish they would make that an option across the rest of their product lines...

Thanks for your answers.
My guess is that I'll wait until I have an opportunity to try it in a quiet area and check for myself or get real-world user feedbacks.
But as you say, the nc84x0 is pretty noisy. So I think that anything else would be better. -
I have one of these computers and I really like it. I like the hard drive space that this computer has, 500 GB is plenty of storage for anyone to have. It is also really fast and you can have a lot of windows open without having it crash on you or bog down. It has average battery life, lasting maybe a max of 3 hours at most. The CD burner is really fast compared to the desktop that we have. I like the touch strip at the top, as you can mute and control volume using the touch strip. For the internet, I use Firefox, as Internet Explorer is much slower and tends to have a lot more problems. As for the fan noise, it is relatively quiet. The only time that it really gets noisy is when it is burning to or from CDs. Even then, it is quieter than most laptops.
The only problem that I have with the computer is that the display driver will once in a while not respond and the screen will go blank for a second, but it always corrects itself. And if you run the battery completely dry or to a very low point, the computer itself and the box on the charger gets very hot. And I dislike the fact that the other GB of RAM is not used under the 32 bit version of Vista. I advise anyone who wants to buy this computer to either upgrade to the 64 bit version of Windows or to stay with XP. Even without the last GB of RAM, it's still an excellent computer.
Overall, I think it is a great buy, as most computers with the higher storage and RAM cost much more. And the fact that it has a fingerprint scanner is a plus.
HP Compaq 6735b anyone?
