I just wanted to give a shout out for the Compaq 6910p. I was issued one of these for work (Core 2 T7300, 2GB, GMA X3100, WSXGA+) to replace my old nc6000, and it's simply the best notebook that I have owned.
Pros:
Very light for the screen size (about 1/2 lb lighter than the T61)
Solid build
Attractive but not gaudy, more so than the T61.
Very quiet (whoosh sound under load, disk noise only at idle).
Runs cool, even under load.
Good battery life (4.5 hours at idle with 6-cell)
Excellent keyboard layout.
Good screen (not mega-bright, but more than usable), not glossy
Cons:
Touch strip controls are funky, particularly volume up/down.
GMA X3100 sucks, although it's fine if you don't play games.
Brightness controls on F9/F10, rather than some place easier to find by feel.
Expensive if you don't get discounts (though I didn't pay for mine!)
I'm getting my 14.1" widescreen T61 (personal use!) on Monday, so I'll update this post with a comparison. My T61 is similarly configured, but has the Quadro NVS 140M graphics.

Sounds like a good laptop.
Keep us posted on the comparison with T61!
So, no problems with the screen? Text is clear and crisp?
HP Compaq 6910p - Darn fine
