anyone has a suggestion for a good backpack for this laptop ? 15.4 backpacks are too big for a 14.1 laptop... maybe a 14" backpack can fits better !

Has anyone been able to use the firewire port that's available on this unit? I know most people are probably looking to use it for camcorder interface, but I'm particularly hoping to hook up a firewire storage unit I have. I've already checked to make sure this port is enabled, so I'm not sure what else might be needed. Thanks

If anyone else is getting the sound stutter problem when you move the volume bar on the taskbar just go to sound options and turn off the power savings feature for the sound. This fixed my problem. Maybe a driver version later on will fix this. Ive had two 6910P that both did this.

Has anyone has experienced working with Vista 64-bit with HP 6910p? I have tried and installed all the proper drivers on mine. But after I have installed a number of software on the laptop, Vista 64-bit begins to to become very unstable, crashes, blue screens, reboots.

My 6910p has ATI x2300 video chip and has 4GB of ram.

I believe the problem has a lot to do with drivers issue with certain hardware. Anyone knows?

On HP website, driver sp38088.exe is for Intel Matrix Storage Manager and is suppose to fix

    - Fixes intermittent issue where the notebook may generate
a "blue screen" error when an application sends an
    IOCTL_SCSI_MINIPORT command to the system.

    - Fixes intermittent issue where the notebook may generate
a "blue screen" error when running PCMark05.

I install softwares such as Matlab, S-Plus and Miktex and system starts to crash a lot without even using any of them.

    but it does not work.

I have tried Windows XP Pro 32-bit and there is no trouble at all, but 4GB of memory can not be fully accessed.

Can anyone help me to solve the problem?

Hi, I'd just like to add to this thread.

I bought my 6910p in October 2007. Came with T7500, 2GB RAM, 160GB HD, ATi X2300. Also it came with recovery/driver disks for Vista Business 32/64, and XP Pro.

I have to say that I like this notebook alot. The keyboard is a pleasure to type on, dare I say even comparable to the Thinkpads. Performs really well, but the graphics card is so-and-so. Alas, performance in graphics intensive apps leaves something to be desired.

The notebook never gets too hot under load, but the exhaust vent on the left side is like a mini-heater, pushing out copious amount of air . The fan, not very noticeable under light-normal usage roars to life when under load.

Love the biometric security, but HP's credential manager software is a little buggy. I've had a bit of trouble using it with firefox to log on to websites at times.

I've had a series of problems with my 6910p with the Intel GM965/X3100 chipset. Running Vista 64 sp1

    My problems:

    1. Does not fully go to sleep or hibernate mode 50% of the time and hangs forcing a hardware reset.
    2. The SD card reader's driver randomly uses 40%-50% of the CPU usage causing serious system performance issues after a few hours of up. I've had to disable the SD reader to fix this.
    3. The screen flickers occasionally when running off the battery (adaptive brightness issue?)
    4. Rare random crashes where the whole machine locks up while doing nothing.
    5. The similar fan noise issues people have reported in this thread.

I have the newest BIOS flashed and all the HP Vista 64 drivers offered on their site.

Anyone having similar problems with Vista 64? :(
