    Hi!

Here's the idea of this thread. Post some things about new notebook technology introduce by HP.

    I'll start:

HP introduced a technology they called HP quickplay. THis technology lets you start playing DVD and MP3 without booting your PC. This feature is available in HP pavilion notebooks.

They introduced Light Scribe which is cool. Where you can inscribe grayscale pictures onto HP cds.

Does HP really invent this concept? or they just invent the Quickplay name? I saw this feature on different machines. For example, Uniwill, they were using power cinma things and run on Linux.

It's not very exclusive when Dell has the same exact thing under the name of Media Direct. It's just HP seems to advertise it's Quick Play more.

they said its an exclusive technology coming from them since no one has the same name. just kiddin... :D

strange that sometimes people claim that what they have is an exclusive technology when others have the same technology though bearing a diff name..

i am willing to bet that hp did not invent either. they were probably the most successful to market both technologies though.

Quickplay, I believe was developed(or parts of it atleast) by Intervideo and licensed to HP for use in the Quickplay bundle.

As for as Lightscribe it is most definately an HP invention...

HP is also scheduled to introduce Lightscribe in Color later this year...

I alway thought quickplay was theirs. My friend had it on her win 98 machine back a looonnng time ago, but back then it only did music because there wasn't any dvd-roms at the time. At the time I thought that was cool hp feature that I never saw anywhere else. Maybe the DVD portion of the feature now is partially from Intervideo but I could swear the Quickplay idea first started with hp.

It as well might be HP's brainchild, but as you said they might have used tech from other companies. I think the Directplay feature was developed by Intervideo called Instant On.
