    hello from crawley!
i have a similar problem with my presario A900 . i just opened it to clean it after nearly 4 years of owning it.
a guy came today to help me figure out why it ´dies´´ when i switch it on ...after i cleaned it!
    it was filthy inside BTW.
we put a shim of cardboard in between the cover and the heat sink above the processor, so that the cover will force contact between the 2 .
it helped for a while...now this eve it died when i was 20 mins into watching online news.
all the while the fan is full pelt , but only when doing video things.
it blows cold air at high speed.
i opened the processor cover and put in more shims...will it work OK now...?!
i am not impressed by the built in failure obsolescence here.
i think you are better informed than me, bawoo, got any ideas for me too??!!
if you want to open and look around, be extremely careful ..it is not designed to be played with in the way of repairs.
power and communication connections are flimsy and only one or 2 of them are designed to do an easy click when putting it all together again.
in spite of the heating, i think you could have the same problem as me ...
space between processor and heat sink because the 2 are not sitting together as they should ...leading to overheating and/or erroneous communication between sensor and fan,
    any more thoughts?
