    Hi all,

Just a moment ago I was filling out the order for my customized Compaq V4000T online, and I noticed the sales tax was included in the final summary with the little * next to it!
does this mean that I have to pay the sales tax even though this is online store? or is it just different in Washington?
    help~

Mostly they don't charge tax, but there are a few they do.

You can check in the Terms section for the taxing policy. A few states do require taxes.

I noticed the same thing last night. I am in Tennessee and it will add 136.00 to the order.

I ordered my V2000z last month and wasn't charged sales tax as I'm in Washington DC. But I remember HP stating that certain states such as Cal does charge the tax. If you're in DC, you shouldn't be paying that tax...

Some states need tax ( GA, TN and a few others).
I found the shipping fee of HP/compaq online store is quite rediculous. Sometime a $480 laptop will end up being $~590 becuase of Tax+ $69 shipping fees.

as of about a week ago, the hpshopping.com (consumer) site now/should charge sales tax for EVERY state. The small/medium business side always charged tax before (no change there). New regulation in place for companies that have local sources and resellers that sell the companies products. So the hpshopping.com will now charge sales tax in every state that has local HP resellers - which is very state. And same will go for ALL business's alike, Sony, etc

    welcome to 2006 :hp:

Notice that too... I live in NJ and was going to get compaq 4000t. At the end it show tax charged. So, if i going to pay tax... Costco has compaq build to order as well. And its a few dollar cheaper. Also also you have 6 months to return.

Crap, I agree, if they're going to start charging tax to WA, it's definitely a no brainer to order from Costco now. Plus they only charge ~$16 for shipping (non-custom orders) and not $69 like HP does if you don't get free shipping.

That tax sux big time. They hit me for $107.00 US, but the 2 day FedEx wasn't bad at $24.00.

All and all I was disappointed because I had slated that extra $130.00 for accessories. But I'm over it now... got to move on or it will eat ya up and cause buyers remorse... LOL

I am in Georgia and ordered a DV1000 on Monday. They charged me tax. I called them and they stated that they now charge tax for every state.
