Hi folks,
I have Windows 7 RTM running on my nc8430 laptop. It has been working great. The only issue is a standby problem. If I put the computer to sleep via the FN-f3 combo it goes to sleep like it should and wakes up like it should. My power profile is set to put the computer to sleep after 10min of inactivity. If after 10min I let the computer go to sleep on its own, upon resuming it from standby I get a black screen. The computer is on and everything is working with sound, just no screen.
I am assuming it is a possible BIOS problem or video driver problem. I have the most recent of each and have tried different video driver versions but no fix.
If anyone else is experiencing this problem with this notebook or a similar one and knows a fix I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Changed some settings to see if I could pinpoint the problem.
Sleep after 1min-3min on power and battery: Resumes fine
Sleep after 5min-10min on power and battery: Resumes with black screen
Seems that it is affected somehow by how long it is inactive for. I am stumped. -
Can you put your screen under strong light to check if it's just the backlight not waking up. There is a known issue with that generation of ATI cards.

I have the same problem and my Compaq nc8430 went black today. I can't even work anymore. I can see that it is still working but i can't see anything on the screen.
Was your problem solved? And can u tell me how, please?
Thank You very much

@Nebiyou ...Did you find a solution for your problem? I have a similar issue as well.

When you guys turn your nc8430s back on, and you get the black screen, try pressing the lid switch (it's the little nub just in front of the left screen hinge; don't hold it) and see if that recovers the screen.
I say that because I used to have a similar problem with my HP Compaq nw8440 (Workstation version of the nc8430; running XP Pro) when I closed the lid. It would go into standby, but if I waited too long, the screen wouldn't come back up when I turned it back on. Pressing the lid switch would bring the screen up again.
See if pressing the lid switch fixes the problem temporarily (just press it quickly; don't hold it down) -
My screen is still not working after what you said. Can i change the screen
HP Compaq nc8430 (Resuming from Standby-Blank Screen)
