    HP Compaq Mobile Workstation nw9440 - Core 2 Duo T7400 2.16 GHz - 17" TFT -- Seems like a heck of a machine but it does not come loaded with Vista and only has one hard drive. Besides the occasional game I do intend to do some video editing. My impression has been there is a real benefit to loading video on one drive and editing from another. I suppose I could always get an external drive. The nw9440 is more expensive but the cost may be picked up by someone who won't sweat the difference.

    My choices are. 1) Get the nw9440 now
    http://www.bestbuybusiness.com/bbfb...il&productID=BB10673329&operation=showDetails ;

    2) Wait for apx 2 months for a Vista loaded nw9440 machine (per HP rep) or;

    3) Max out a DV9000t.

    All input appreciated as I am not very familiar with the business side of HP.

    thanks

    Yeah thats alot of money for what you get it seems!

    Im sure the dv9000t with similar specs will be around $2000-2500

    I personally dont see why you shouldnt get the dv9000t but the only thing i dunno is how the quadro 1500M compares to the go7600 and which one is faster in terms of what you want (games, video editing). CPUs difference is negligable but yeah two hard drives is a plus when it comes to transferring data.

    from what im hearing here, the business side of HP is alot better but I dunno whether it means better just in customer service or better in build quality as well. you could always buy the nw9440 now and get the free upgrade to Vista (it shud still apply i gather) if money is not the object but maybe u shud save some money and go for a dv9000t with vista now

    You cannot compare the HP nw9440 and the HP dv9000t in terms of build quality.

    The HP nw9440 is far superior notebook. It has so much better build quality (top notch) meaning more durable(sturdier)/reliable and has some business-class features such as magnesium alloy chasis (not plastic like dv9000), HDD shock absorber.. that protect the internal components (no protection for dv9000), steel hinges...etc., then you get business-class support (so much better), and it's thin and light for its size, actually, one of the the lightest 17" notebooks..., the keyboard (spill free) is nearly excellent (closest to ThinkPad) and it has nothing to with Pavilions, the screen is very good, it has an ambient light sensor (can be disabled, not everyone likes it). It's definitely far supeior notebook compared to a budget-class notebook like HP Pavilion. If you tried both of them, you would see that there is no comparison, the difference is huge.

    As for the video card, the NVIDIA Quadro FX 1500M is based on the Go 7900 GS and is so much better (powerful) than a regular Go 7600 in anything (including games). If you don't need that much power, there is the HP nx9420.

    I don't want to know what a maxed out HP Pavilion dv9000t is but I have to say this is a budget notebook and is a good deal as long as it's cheap. If you double the price with options this is no longer a good deal because the notebook itself is not worth more than 1500$, inho.

    Hope that helps.

    The nw9440 is a better option if you can afford it. HP's business class machines are tested rigorously (they have more rigid stress testing procedures) and have higher quality components that are more durable. They are also designed and built to last to provide you with a better ROI, so they're a better investment.
    Business class support is way better, at least in my experience. With the business notebooks, they get it fixed as quickly as they can (because they are supposed to repair it in 3 days) while with the consumer range, repairs can take weeks (they don't promise you anything).
    The reason it doesn't come with Vista yet is because large businesses have not migrated to Vista and there is little demand for it in the business side so far, but since you can get the upgrade later, this shouldn't really be a deciding factor unless you must have Vista (I don't see why anyone must have Vista frankly).

    Thanks guys.

    The input is greatly appreciated.

    Looks like I'll go with the nw9440.
    Having two little one running around the house makes the far sturdier build of the nw9440 a key point.

    I also suggest the business line. After a nightmare with the predecessor of the dv9000t (the dv8000t) my new NX9420 is a MILLION times better all around.
