    Hello!

Has anyone tried and succeeded in installing Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit?) on the old HP Compaq nx7300 laptop? There are only XP and Vista drivers available for it, but if anyone installed Windows 7 and all the drivers needed (by Windows 7 itself or by help of the Vista drivers maybe), please let me know. I have the laptop and it's in a good condition and am thinking about upgrading ram from 1 GB to 2 GB and installing Windows 7 - if possible of course.

    Thank you!

You can try using vista drivers for any device that didnt install. At least i did that with my old nc8430 some time ago.

Few weeks ago i did some cleaning on an nx7300, but with single core cpu running windows 7. After i made upgrade from 1 gb to 2 gb system was running much better.

My opinion would be: if you are on a single core cpu reinstal windows xp and add some ram. If you have dual core add some ram and go with windows 7. Most if not all drivers should be installed by windows itself.

And that worked, the Vista drivers were recognised and used in Windows 7? I have a Core 2 Duo processor, so yeah, I'm thinking about adding another GB of ram (so that would make 2 GB in total) and installing Windows 7. Should I go with 32 or 64 bit? And thank you very much for your comments!

Windows 7 can use Windows Vista drivers, but you'll need to make sure driver installer programs are set to run in compatibility mode for Windows Vista first. (Right click the program, click properties, click "compatibility" tab, check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" checkbox, select "Windows Vista" in the drop-down menu below that checkbox, click OK, then run the program. Repeat for all Vista driver installation programs)

As for 32 vs 64-bit, that depends on the CPU you have. If you have a Core 2 Duo or a Core 2 Solo processor (notice the emphasis on the '2'--more on that later), then you can run either 32 or 64-bit, though 64-bit is preferred. However, if you have a Core Duo, Core Solo (notice the lack of the '2'), Pentium Dual-Core, or a Celeron, then your only option is is the 32-bit version. If you don't know what CPU your nx7300 has, you can stick with the 32-bit version just to be safe (you will be limited to 3.37GB of RAM, even if you install 4GB)
