    Hi,

I've been trying to find a good laptop that fits my needs. So far I found a Dell but I've read too many negative comments about them. The reason I didn't want Dell is because of the screen. Now I'm looking into getting an Compaq - the HP Compaq nx8220. Not really worried about the CPU, but the video card looks good. Not as good as the NVidia 6800 Ultra but I guess this will do and the screen is not 17".

Does anyone know if the screen on the HP Compaq nx8220 have "sparkles"? I really need a good quality laptop that I can take with me for gaming and programming and surfing the internet (I have unlimited data usage on my cell phone).

For some reason Compaq in Canada won't let me customize my laptop. Anyways, suggestions are always welcome.

    Thanks

There's like no review for this notebook. What gives? Is this a crappy notebook or something? Anyone have it?

I think this a very new laptop...so wont find many reviews & owners and has not been released in the US yet...
But PC world has a review of the NC8230 comparable to the nx8220.

AFAIK there are no 'sparkles' effect on any HP laptop and they were only problems on certain Dell screens.

As Miner mentioned, this is a very new notebook in the market. You will have a hard time finding any reviews for it so quickly after its release. The user Acain on this site has released a review of his NC8230 which is generally the exact same unit (minor differences). So far, Acain seems to really like the notebook and has only listed minor issues (mainly personal preference).

Regarding customization of the units, it can't be done in Canada. Manufacturers only provide this option for their US customers. The only customizable notebook from the manufacturer in Canada is Dell.

This is the same notebook I'm considering/going to get this week. I'm just gonna get it directly from HP.ca with the extended warranty. The other unit I was considering was the NC6230 (14.1" non-wide screen), but was concerned about the ATI X300 GPU & the lack of a DVD burner.

Hi, Thanks for the inputs. I just tried ordering the NX8220 from hp.ca but it won't allow me to add any extented warranties! Is there any sites that will want my business? Holy crap I finally found a laptop I wanted but it won't let me add extra warranty. BTW, the think the NX8220 128MB x600 video card comes with 3 year warranty already. Only the 64MB video card version of the laptop is 1 year. Also until the end of April. Order a business Notebook and get a Printer, Digital Camera, or an IPAQ for FREE!!!

I have a nx8220 and the screen is very good. Sort of semi-brightview. Remember though that it is a very high resolution screen. 1680x1050 on a 15" screen so if you are used to 1024x768 on a 14" display it might be a bit of a shock.

Strangely enough when I compared the nx8220 to the almost identical nc8230 the nc8230 had a very "sparkled" screen. I am pretty sure though that it was a defective display, anyway I would have returned it immediately.

karlth - what do you mean when you say that the NC8230 you saw had a "sparkled" screen? do you mean glossy, comparable to the X-brite and TruBrite screens? I thought the displays on the NX8220 were identical to the NC8230.
