I've had this notebook since september now. However, I've been experiencing some problems the last few days. When my laptop is running on 'high performance', the fan (at least I think it's the fan, the noise is located on the bottom of my notebook, upper left corner) starts to go faster and makes a mechanical rattling noise, as if something's loose. If I set my power plan to 'power saver', the fan starts turning slowly again and there's no rattling noise. When I get the noise and I life and turn my notebook around a bit, sometimes the noise disappears in certain angles.

What should I do? It's probably not a smart move to open the notebook myself and see if anything's loose? Should I contact the store where I bought the notebook or contact HP through their site or something?

    Thanks in advance

Since the fan sounds like it needs replacing you might aswell send it to HP instead of trying to do it yourself

It's probably a heatsink cooling fan issue - seems to be a rash of those lately. I just had one also. Send it in for repair before the fan fails or jams causing it to overheat. And when you call HP repair, don't let them put you thru hours of standard-script troubleshooting crap (like I did, unfortunately). They also tried (at first) to tell me it was probably normal to have my fan making loud noises and have the laptop boiling hot. But the real kicker was that HP repair damaged my nearly-new laptop (scratches, gouges, on the cover, and solvent on the sreen & case) and then tried to blame it on FedEx. But the FedEx box was completely undamaged. So I recommend taking several photos of it next to the FedEx label just before you put it in the box. Good Luck. Let us know how it turns out.
