I know people have posted this before I felt like bringing another one up, so people can check their lappys and make sure they did not get the low quality, dim LCDs.

In other topics people talked about different LCDs on DV series, Quanta, Samsung, AUO and many more. According to some Quanta has a bright LCD almost identical to Sony's LCD (Of course Sony does not make its own LCD either). So if you got SEC aka Samsung, you should check out other screen type see what you are missing. Once you order your PC you can ask for a particular LCD and if they did not put the one you like you can return it for that reason, at least that's what I did.

How you know what kind of LCD you got!
Just follow the step below and you will see an abriviation of Screen manufacturer and just google that, so here we go

    1. Right click my computer,
    2. Click property
    3. Click Hardware Tab
    4. Click Device Manager
    5. Click Monitor
    6. Under monitor you will see Plug & Play Monitor
    7. Right click and property
    8. Click on Detail tab
    9. From the drop down menu chose Device Instance ID
    10. There you should see the three or two letter abbriviation of company made that LCD.

Good luck and make sure you don't get lemon.

I got a SEC/Samsung on my dv2000t that i ordered about three weeks ago with a T2500 and i don't like it much at all because it is definitely not very bright. I'm sending it back though because i ordered another one when Merom was released so i have a new dv2000t with a T7200 coming and i'm hoping the LCD on it is one of the good bright ones.

    Great. I just ordered a DV2000 CTO.

Just my luck. Burningrave101, what did you say to be able to return/exchange it? I once swore off online purchases, now I tried it again - and I hear this Samsung LCD crap....sigh...

Should I just refuse the package and get my money back?

I have the SEC abbreviation (for some reason I have plug and play monitor 3 times - is that normal?). Anyways, my screen is beautiful and bright so I don't see what's wrong with these at all, that is unless they get dimmer over time? Regardless, I think it would be pretty silly to return it just to take a chance that there may be a different screen!

You have 21 days with Dell and HP to return a laptop for a refund. They will pay return shipping cost. Check it out for a while and see what LCD you got and see if you like the laptop and if you got one with a bad display that's not that bright and you aren't satisfied then just call HP customer support and tell them you want to return it. Then you can ither order another one or order something else.

Do you have another laptop to compare it to? And i don't think it is silly to return it if your not satisfied at all. If you are paying close to $1,000 for something you should get one that offers you what you want.

About the Monitor showing up 3 times, I guess is normal since all computer show that many time.
About the SEC, I shall say that I am still waiting for the laptop, but have see some very bright as well as some dim ones, so it mattres.

Thanks for the reply....i figured the 3 times was normal since it's brand new and I didn't mess with it. As I mentioned, the SEC i have has an AWESOME screen so maybe it's hit and miss....or maybe the dim ones you've seen had the brightness setting down a little? ;)

I have mine turned up to max brightness and it is sitting next to a Dell E1505 and the E1505 LCD is much brighter. I'm hoping that my new dv2000t that will be here today or tomorrow will have one of the brighter displays.
