    Hi,

I have a HP DV1000 laptop that I purchased 3 yrs ago, the screen suddenly goes blank in the middle of activity, I could still see the open windows and applications in teh background and looks like the lights went out in the monitor.

I have to restart the laptop to get the screen lights back and this happens again after a few minutes.

How can I fix this? will HP cover this for me?

    Thanks, Sam

Looks like either a backlight or inverter problem. I would suggest replacing the backlight first and see if it fixes the issue. If it doesn't then it might be the inverter.

Is your laptop under warranty? If yes, then HP would cover it under warranty. If not then you will have to pay to get it fixed.
