Hello all,
I've been reading in this discussion forum for quite a long time, and there has been some valuable information presented by everyone.
I got my wife an HP DV2 for Mother's Day. She was extremely excited because she has needed a new laptop for quite some time. Anyway, we opened it and started to boot it up everything was looking good. I then happened to glance down at the mouse buttons and noticed that the left button looks as if it was pressed. There is definitely a gap when running your finger across the buttons. When pressing the right mouse button, it moves down as far as the left button sits while unpressed.
Now, I should clarify that the left button still works, it is just sitting lower than it seems like it should. I just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this with their "brand new out of the box" HP DV2. My wife and I were both extremely bummed out, only because I equate it to buying a brand new car and noticing that the headlight is pressed in a little it and is uneven. Are we being too picky? To us, it seems ridiculous that a $700 laptop would have a quality issue like this.
If anyone has any info with the same problem, let me know! I'm attaching a couple pictures showing the issue - in one, you can see me pressing the right button down to the level of the left unpressed button.

No, I don't think that's "normal". Both my mouse buttons are at the same height as eachother and have a slight inward slope.
If it bothers you, exchange it. That's something you're gonna be looking at and using every day. -
I would take it back to the store and get them to replace it.

Yeah, I think you are both right... it is going to bother me enough that I am going to take it back and get them to exchange it for me. If I didn't, I'm sure with my luck, the left button would stop functioning normally and then I'd have to deal with HP on it. Right now, I'm only 3 days into my 14 day window with Staples.
Thanks for your input! -
The mouse buttons are even when I saw it at Costco.

My DV5 is like yours, but the button that is lower is the right button. If it was the left, I would have sent it back, but since the right is used less often I have ignored it. It wasn't worth it to me to send it in for repair. Besides, I called HP and complained and they gave me $50 for my troubles so it was worth it for me. I also use an external mouse quite often as well.
HP DV2 - Uneven Mouse Buttons (normal?)
