I have the HP DV2 1010eo. It's got the AMD Neo and ATI 3410 GPU, 2GB ram and 500GB HDD.
First thing I did when I got it was to instantly install Win7 on it, because I read the OS performs alot better than Vista, and it was a great oppurtunity to not having to sit and remove all the bloatware from the Vista installation.
But Win7 runs really really really bad. The Aero is very slow when the windows have to slide open, it doesn't do it smoothly but lags it open, and everything just doesn't feel as smooth and fast as it does with Vista installed on it, which is weird since Win7 should run better i guess.
My main concern was that I just needed to update the drivers, because I remember vista running slow and laggy on all computers I've worked with, untill the correct display and chipset drivers are installed. So I installed the Catalyst beta drivers for Win7, and it installed the GPU drivers, but didn't install anything for the north- or southbridge, and Win7 still ran like crap.

It did score the same scores as Vista do in Windows experience, so how come Win7 still runs a lot worse than Vista on the DV2?

This is very strange. I also installed win7 right away and it was FLYING since the moment OS loaded the first time. I didn't have to install any drivers at all to get the great performance. Later on I installed a beta ATI driver for win7 and a touchpad driver (for better scrolling) and "HP 3D guard" HDD protection driver to get rid of the only 'unknown device'. That's it, and it didn't affect the performance at all.

BTW, I installed, of course, windows 7 64bit version 7100 RC. Make sure that you have the same and that your download source is safe (Microsoft, preferably).
If that doesn't help, there is something wrong with your laptop, because the speed of this laptop is the main reason I kept it, and I tried many different 'netbooks'. If your speed is not satisfactory, something must be wrong.

I just noticed that you have a 2GB version... So you could, actually, have tried win7 32bit... Which one was it? And how was the perfromance of the original Vista? Mine was rather decent, even with all HP bloatware...

I had Win7 32bit on it. Now i have Vista 32bit on it and it runs much better than Win7.

The other things I remember from Win7 is that it took AGES for it to load the various drivers and applications installations. It would just hang forever after I pressed the run button on the warning window you get when trying to launch an .exe.

Very strange that I'm the only one having trouble with Win7, I was sure it ran like crap for everyone because AMD needed to release some chipset drivers or something :(

I ran Win7 for a bit, I love it on my desktop, but haven't been very impressed on the laptops I've ran it on. *shrug*

Do a 3DMark06 test. Your result should be about 950, which is down from 1380 of the default Win 7 driver.

i've had best gaming results running 32bit xp (tiny ex actually). Had to use mobility modder for the gfx to work, and can't run 3dmark to check the score. But my games are noticably faster (particularly oblivion and cod4)

very odd. I run win7 x64 with no issues. Go through the CCC settings and make sure you are properly configured. Try setting the power manager settings to maximize performance.
