I have a DV2000 and recently died. It seemed to have been a slow and painful death. A week or so ago, when I was using it the screen went while then really really blurry. So I powered it off. The problem only got worse, now the screen is completely black, nothing boots up, at least I dont think anything does.

As I have been reading through some of the posts here, it seems that hte dv2 and dv3 series have the problem of the southbridge or was it northbridge right under the track pad that includes the graphics chip module dying.

Oh the laptop is out of warranty, so no luck there.

    So What I have done

    - Take the computer completely part and looked for clearly burnt parts (found none)

    - Memory (RAM) seems fine
    - CPU seems ok
    - Harddrive is ok
    - LCD screen seems ok

So where can I find a replacement mobo on the cheap so I can replace it to see if its the problem or where can I get it diagnosed, so I know exactly what the problem is and get replacement parts?

Any help or thoughts are welcome. Thanks in advanced

Have you checked the HP extended warranty/recall page? If your model is listed then you are entitled to a free service even after your standard warranty has expired.'

I got quotes of $300-600 for a mo bo

If you pulled it apart that might have voided the warranty but then again it wasnt your fault you had to do so

Make sure you put it all back together properly so they dont notice it! They could void the extended warranty if you tampered with it

just make sure you stay on top of your repair....hp is getting swamped and repairs are taking upwards to a month or more and they like to play tricks on you so watch out....
