Just received my HP DV2000T this morning (Core 2 Duo 2 Ghz; 1 Gb Ram; Nvidia 7200; 100 gb HD; XP MC).

I've read in past online reviews, from both mavens and laity, that DV2000s run quite cool. Mine seems to run rather warm, specifically in the bottom left corner. On the basis of my past experiences with other laptops, nothing seems really unusual in that respect. What concerns me, however, is that the warmth is quite palpable even on top, in the left corner right where one places one's left hand for typing on the keyboard. Similar experiences with other users? Is this normal?

Another quirk: my wireless download speed (100-200kbs) is lower than my upload speed (400-500kbs). My desktop download/upload ratio is 5mb/500kbs. An old Toshiba labtop wireless connection on that same line was about 4mb/300kbs. What could be causing the download slowdown?

(Screen: SEC4242. Looks acceptable, though I'll have to check out at the stores QDS etc. to see what I am missing.)

These are my immediate issues of concern with the laptop. I'll share broader impressions later, after some further use.

    Thanks in advance for responses.

    HEAT FACTOR UPDATE:

I went to a couple of computer stores today to compare my DV2000T purchased thru HP with the in-store HP amd Compaq models. After examining several machines, I seem to have discovered an interesting pattern: all of the notebooks that had Nvidia cards (7200) ran noticeably warmer than those that had Intel cards (Accelerator 950), both on the bottom and on top. Am I delusional or have some other users noted a similar phenomenon? :) Would others who have Nvidia cards be willing to share their experiences with the heat factor, especially on top, just to the left of the trackpad? Since I've had the laptop for less than a day, I'm still undecided whether the heat on top factor causes sufficient discomfort (for the left palm) amid everyday tasks to start thinking of a return?

P.S. I haven't been able to find an HP with a QDS screen in the stores, just AUO and LG. Neither one looked markedly superior to SEC.

I too have a similar DV2000T laptop (Core 2 Duo 1.8 Ghz; 512 Mb Ram; Nvidia 7200; 60 gb HD; XP Pro). I do notice the same left areas getting warm, but it doesn't get uncomfortably hot. I have even worked with my laptop on my lap.

I don't think it's surprising that it runs a little warmer with the discrete Nvidia graphics card compared with the integrated Intel chip. The Nvidia 7200 generates a little more heat and uses a little more power compared to the Intel video.
