    everyone,

I was thinking of buying the DV2000t laptop, with the core 2 duo and the discrete graphics option. I pretty much know what i want in it except for, I can't decide which battery to get.

I really wanted the 12 cell battery because 6 hours without recharging sounds cool and would be great for long flights, but after seeing the pictures ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=73141) on this forum I am confused. It seems like the 12 cell battery really adds a lot of bulk to the laptop and makes the laptop lopsided.

I will be using this laptop mainly for my classes at school and traveling with it while on vacations.

I wanted to know from the people who have the 12 cell battery:

    1) If they like the 12 cell battery or do they wish they would have opted for the 6 cell battery?
    2) Aesthetically is the 12 cell battery really ugly?
    2) Is the laptop stable when sitting on a desk?
    3) Anything else they dislike about the laptop?

My other choice is to get the E1405, but i just hate the build quality and designs of all Dells, they just look so cheap.

thanks in advance for your replies. I am planning to make my decision very soon so all input will be very helpfull.

I have the 6-cell and i can tell you that if you're looking for long lasting periods of time unplugged then i would tell you to get the 12-cell if you want to sacrifice the aesthetic looks of it, I just really don't like the look of the battery jutting out like that. I've also heard that when you place it on your lap it becomes a bit lopsided. The positive thing that I have heard though is that it sort of raises the laptop up so it's easier to type. This is my opinion, I would get the 6-cell because most colleges have outlets in classes and it's not like you're going to be in a lecture 2 hours+.

I agree. The DV2000T is too beautiful of a laptop to ruin it with such an ugly battery. If you are going to be traveling a lot and need long hours of battery use then you have not choice but to get the 12 cell, but if you won't be traveling too much and will be around power outlets (home, classroom, office) all the time, I would get the 6 cell.
I decided to go with the good looks of the laptop and bought a 6 cell battery. Wherever I go there is always a power outlet.
    Good luck

If your only concern is long battery life then the 12 cell would be the best option but i went with the 6 cell because i didn't want the battery sticking out the bottom of the laptop like the 12 cell does. I don't usually run my laptop for over a couple of hours on the battery anyways since i primarily use it as a desktop replacement so i just use it around an AC plug.

Yeah, I liked the battery life the 12 cell provided. But it increased the total weight to ~6lbs and didnt fit properly in a sleeve due to the bigger 12 cell battery. I had to remove the battery everytime I put in my backpack.
Well, not really. When the laptop is open it looks like with the 6 cell but with the back propped up. Ofcourse if you are looking it from the back then its not the best 'look'.
    Definately, Yes.
It is a nice laptop. The only 2 problems would be the fingerprint loving LCD cover which is a bit annoying to look at when it is dirty but when it is clean(HP does provide a lint free cloth) then it was just gorgeous. The other issue which forced me to return my dv2000t was the erratic touchpad which rendered it unusable.

When you put it on your lap, like the first day or so, it feels kinda wierd, but after that, you get used to it and you just automatically adjust your legs accordingly.

I would buy another 6 cell. Thats what I did with my dv1000t. It is such a sleek, small, and light laptop. I couldn't ruin it with a ugly 12 cell. On top of that..2 6 cells might last longer then 1 12 cell would lifetime wise. The more you recharge and charge a adapter the less it holds over time with lithium-ion. So if you use the hell out of one 6 cell, you could then move on to a brand new 6 cell one year later, or when you need it.
I am a college student and one 6 cell is all I need for school, but I brought both 6 cell batteries for a car trip.
If everyday of your life is like a big car trip.
If your a student, even an extra 6 cell battery isn't that much to carry with you. I carry a surge protector with me even...

People are right though, you get used to it.
Like your car...you might get all annoyed if you drop a cig and burn the carpet, and it might stick out or annoy you the first day or two...but you get over it and its nothing anymore...
Your laptop would probably be the same way unless youve been a 6 cell owner for many months.
