sorry updated: dv6000 was the subject
Hi please help me since I'm going to decide between two very similar laptops.

    Here it goes:

    Sony FE790

15.4" WXGA TFT with XBRITE-HiColor Technology and MOTION EYE Camera
    NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600
Wireless LAN (802.11a\b\g) and Bluetooth Technology
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7200 / ICD 2.0 GHz
    1 GB DDR-SDRAM (DDR2-533, 1 GBx1) Windows Vista Premium Ready
    80 GB Hard Disk Drive
    DVD+-R DL_DVD+-RW_DVD-RAM Drive
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (No Installation DVD)
    $1588.00 after tax and everything

    HP Pavilion DV6000t
FREE Upgrade to 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen
HP IMPRINT Finish + Microphone + Webcam
    1.0GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x512MB)
    Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
80 GB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive
    Super Multi 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support
    256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
    Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7200 (2.00 GHz)
Genuine Windows XP Home Edition (System Recovery DVD w/Windows XP Home Edition)
    $1528.00 (After Tax)

I know beside the NVIDIA 7400 v. 7600 there is not much significant difference (Maybe only in name Sony is better) but certainly the look on HP is winner here. I wanted to know if that glossy finish of HP will rub off in time or is it part of the case rather than just cover. I have seen so many FEs and all are dirty due to costumers touching them. Is that the case and if it is, can it be cleaned for example with R-O-H (Alcohol)?

Please list pros and cons as mush detailed as possible

As far as I know, the dv2000t is only available with the Go 7200, not 7400. It also has a 14.1" widescreen, not 15.4. Perhaps you have been looking at the dv6000t?

The glossy finish on the HP will not rub off, it is part of the case and is a special hardened plastic.

I heard Intel FSB support dual channel DDR2. So, there might be different between single 1G stick vs. 2x512M stick.

i would go with the FE anyday. had you not given me the prices i would have assumed that the FE cost you at LEAST $200 more, yet the difference is merely $50.
the FE has a far superior GPU, much more upgradable ram configuration, looks **** sexier, has a superior screen, and i believe it is slightly lighter.
the lack of an installation CD is an obvious drag, as well as the proprietary sony software and bloatware that you have to get rid of, but the decision is almost a no brainer to me...

where are u getting this FE? i would take the FE. I'm a big HP fan and all but the 7600 would be my selling point. If gpu doesn't matter to u, then the dv6000 would be just fine for your needs and more. That's a good deal on the FE for what it has... However, if I had 1600 to spend on a lappy I wouldn't buy niether of the two you listed...

I would take the HP DV2000T.

    - Cheaper, and maybe more durable.
    - The memory card reader is all in one, as opposed to Sony requiring you to use your expresscard slot for the non-Memory Stick stuff
    - Upgradability - easier on the HP
    - Layout of USB ports is better; HP spreads them around, Sony clumps together. The HP layout is much easier to work with (don't have to cram all plugs on one side
    - Remote control on HP is cheap (when bought with the laptop) and very useful; stores on the Expresscard slot when not in use; good design.
    - Extra batteries are much cheaper (when purchased) with the laptop. I have found the 12 cell on HP's kick arse compared to the extended Sonys

    Just my .02...
