I have a DV2225nr and it will not boot. This started after i did a bios update from HP. (maybe the cause maybe not)

Now they want to replace motherboard but will not tell me with what.

specs Turion 64 X2 TL-50 1.6 GHz i like its has Nvidia chip set.

Are there known issues with this model or with this chip set ?

Should i Have them replace the laptop with something else?

Did you try the reset procedure talked about in other threads?

1 Remove external power From PC
    2 Remove Battery from PC
3 Hold power on button down for 60 seconds
4 Plug external power (No Battery Yet)
5 See if PC now turns on.
6 If it turns on. Let it boot to the desktop.
7 After all activity is done.
    8 Shut PC down normaly
9 Plug battery back in and then see if it still boots.

If the reset procedure doesn't work. The BIOS is gone and as you already guessed. It neeeds to be taken care of by HP.

I hate that BIOS upgrade procedure. The best thing you can do before doing it is. Make sure the battery is fully charged and you have a good AC source. Turn off antivirus
Start the upgrade lock the door and walk away for an hour.

That graphic with the lightning bolt is scarry too.

    Good Luck

    FYI

If you have a model like this HP told me that they are replacing motherboards for free even after a year.

A motherboard replacement should be fine. A failed BIOS update actually just needs a re-flashing of the BIOS but since they are replacing the board itself you should be fine.

sb40 - for what this comment is worth - Someone advised me years ago to NOT update the BIOS on a system unless there is some compelling reason to do so. I work as an IT contractor for the Army, and at least where I work, BIOS updates are not authorized. I never update the BIOS on my personal systems. The dv2xxx series is great by the way - I have had my dv2000 for over a year and have a dv2700 enroute - just ordered yesterday.
