Definately go with the HP DV 2775EE, just dont buy 4gb ram with it. Buy it seperately and save alot of money.

Im not too sure if a 8400m GS can handle halo or nfs. I know it can handle NFS:Most wanted not sure about Pro street

The heating and motherboard failures are from the older dv2000 models. The dv2500+ should no longer have these issue. Battery life on average is about an hour and a half. Pretty much 1% battery life per minute.

    Huh

The NBR review of the dv2700 said that with wifi on and half brightness it lasted 3 hours and 7 minutes.

if you wanna a PEnryn just wait unitl Monte something comes out in May.

on Santarosa , a Penryn is not much faster than the T7500 but much more expensive.

Montevina is not until the mid part of this year. It is entirely upto you jetuaime81. You need to see if you can wait that long. If you can it will be worth it but that would be valid only for a few months after your purchase. There will always be something better coming out pretty soon. Try upgrading your Graphics Card to improve performance and reach as far as gaming is concerned. And yes HP does not deliver custom Laptops in UAE or anywhere in the world except USA.

I would wait if you want it for gaming. I have the same series and it stays pretty cool, but if I use it to play games (not like you play - less intense), I make sure it's on a solid surface.

With an 8400M GS, it should be fine - it's the GT graphics card that I read produces a lot of heat.

I heard the 8600M GS is a vast impovement and may be more appropriate for the games you play. Graphics card is key obviously. This is a great site to review graphics cards:

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVidia-GeForce-8400M-GS.3709.0.html

I had it point to the 8400M GS, since that's what you're interested in. It's a class three and its 3d Mark 06 score is around 1500 (average), which means it could handle games like Doom 3 on at least medium settings. My desktop is very old, but it had a good graphics card - currently it scores 1299 on 3d Mark06. It plays games like Half Life 2, Doom 3 etc. pretty smoothly. I.E. it should be able to handle halo and nfs.

If you want the laptop to last you, you might want to hold off until they offer you more options with the configuration, specifically, the graphics card. It depends on what you want and how long you want it.

Depends what you are doing. I find the two things that can drastically cut down on battery life is the WIFI and Blue tooth. Especially the blue tooth. If you turn off those two things I am sure you can add another 30 minutes or probably more. In fact, I suggest to anyone building a new system with BT to get the extended battery. Yeah, BT is that bad on power consumption.

First, that review had the slower Core 2 Duo Processor T5450. Also, it had the integrated X3100 graphics which takes considerable less power then the nvidia 8400m gs. Now if they did their test with WIFI but no mention of BT. So yeah, I believe they got 3 hours with a X3100 integrated graphics. Had they used a BT mouse with the 8400m gpu that number would have been an hour less.

I get around 2 hours on my dv6500t with 8400m, BT and wifi on with the hi capacity 6 cell. And I am about to buy the 12 cell. :)

The DV 2775EE, one of the two he's looking at has a penryn processor which would cancel out the battery advantage of the T5450, making them equal.

Also turning bluetooth off is just two clicks on a taskbar icon, so that isn't a real issue unless you have a BT mouse.

2 hours 40mins sounds reasonable to me with that in mind.

I have a microsoft BT 8000 presenter mouse that I really like. Its great since it doubles as a remote for going through my Radiology powerpoint slides. But there is no doubt about it, BT is the biggest power hog there is.

Also I believe the 2775ee comes with the dedicated GPU.. the 8400m. The things that take more power is the dedicated graphics and BT.. Processors play a much less a roll in this. Especially under battey power and vistas power management kicks in. So expecting 2 hours and 40 minutes on a regular 6 cell with the dedicated GPU may not happen. To really stretch battery life you also need to order with the integrated X3100 graphics which takes far less power then the dedicated GPU. You will probably get more then 2 hours but personally, I would not expect much more then that.

Thank you all for the replies...

well the thing is i need it now...n the difference in price between the 2 models i mentioned is just 160$...dats less i guess for a t9300, 250GB hdd and 4GB memory instead of t7500, 160GB and 2GB ram...n i will be running vista

One more thing.....hw much better a system will perform with 256MB dedicated memory and say 800MB turbocache and 128 MB memory with 800MB turbocache....now the DV6700 is also in my mind :) ....I really wanted a 14in laptop but if the performance is much different then hav to go with the extra weight....

    Regards

    I have a DV7000T CTO laptop w T7500.

The laptop is solid. the GeForce 8400 gs is adequate to run Halo and NFS no problems.

Heating can be an issue, it does get a little hotter then laptops i'm used to. This occurs on the left side of the laptop.

Other than that the best laptop i have ever owned.

I play motorbike games in the train on the way to work and i still get an average of 1:30mins w/ wireless/bt off. When im at home with wireless and bt on i still get the same. Maybe its because its undervolted.

You can turn BT off seperately either with HP wireless assistant or through the device manager

I thought he meant Halo 2 and NFS: Pro Street. These are fairly new and 8400GS might have problems handling it

Heating issue on the left palm rest is mostly because of the hard drive. If you get a cheap hitachi drive in there it will heat up easily.

Just a note about memory. I never add memory to my computers - anytime I have in the past, I've experienced only bad things. The reason is that sometimes using a different manufacturer can cause an issue. If you're going to add memory after the fact, try to stay with the same manufacturer or you may run into trouble. Because of my experience, I always buy my system with the memory I want in it right off the bat to avoid possible issues in the future.

I add RAM to all of my computers at one point in their lifetime. Only once I've had a problem and it was that the motherboard was picky (Compaq's fault) - I wasn't the only one to have a problem. I refuse to pay a premium for the manufacturer to up the memory when I can get 2x 1GB DDR2 sticks for only $55.

Likewise, ive always added my RAM aftermarket. Only minor problems, thats why you run memtest86+

HP actually uses the same stuff except they bump the price all the way up. My dv2000 came with 2x1gb samsung sticks on it

Well that's fantastic for you guys. Congratulations. Just be advised to try and keep it the same manufacturer at the very least. It has something to do with the way it's made and the voltage I believe. I remember looking it up when I kept having the problem repeatedly. All RAM is not created equal. The less problems, the better.

Yes the only issue ive had was mix and matching RAM modules brand/capacity. It usually works but it doesnt always work out. This was the minor issue i was talking about.

Its best you if keep it the same brand and even same capacity if possible

Kudos! That's exactly what I was trying to say! I was an english major, so I have trouble getting right to the point without fluffing it up ... A LOT.
How else did I ever get those 20 page papers done?
