The DV3T is up on the HP site for customization!
http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/s...ory&v1=Ultra-Portable&series_name=dv3t_series
Feature I haven't seen yet is the LED+Infinity display. It also has a backlit keyboard option. Other than that, it basically has the same options as the DV4.
One thing that struck me was the cost... seems to be overly expensive, at least when you compare it with the DV4.
-
nice. except the hinge is still oldy
-
Oooh...a new HP Pavilion to configure on the website.
The specs look nice overall and is a great alternative to those who want the same performance as a dv4, but with more portability (not to mention that back-lit keyboard).
However, I think the price has to go down just a bit before it becomes something that's worth buying. -
I hope HP would wise up and include the backlit keyboard and the led/infinity options for the DV4...
They haven't given it any of these "extra" type features since..... well, ever. -
Hmm...these are 16:10 ratio screens while the ones posted yesterday were 16:9 screens. I wonder why HP is selling two models of the same laptop with different screens or if its just a typo on the other website.
-
A 13" that's 4.93lbs - that's sad.
-
lol, and I bought dv3 with amd yesterday
thank god for costco return policyNow only can someone let me know how temps are gonna b in this machine and how graphics card compares to ati 3200.

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
-
Does anyone know how does the high capacity 6-cell battery look like? Is it flush with the housing? It claims to have a 7 hour battery life, so approximately 5 hours of real use, which is impressive.
-
Temps will be cooler with the Intel chips, read the Heat/Noise section for more information:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=372551
They say that the thermal performance is very good, just FYI.
GPU wise, if you got the intel 4500MHD graphics, the ATI solution would trounce it. But if you get the Nvidia 105, I believe it will give decidedly better performance.
The high-capacity 6-cell battery looks exactly like the standard 6-cell. I think you have that confused with the 9-cell- that's the one that gives the advertised 7 hours and that juts out a bit, something like------->
http://www.laptopmag.com/review/newgallery.aspx?id=28325&img=7 -
K, what's this High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery, up to 7 hours battery life ? And what's Infinity display ? Also u can't get backlit keyboard on white model, only the black model has that option, weird....
-
yeah, then they made a mistake on the website, once u start adding upgrades there's an option for 6-cell 7hr one, that's what threw me off.
-
Not interested in intel anymore. My next laptop will be a dv2
-
I want pics/video's when some1 gets!
-
-
The spec say it includes expansion port 3.... but I don't see it.
Man, if it had the port I would jump on it now...
But it can't be there... unless it's on the...... bottom? lol -
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
i am kind of mad cause I just ordered my dv4t on sunday.... on the bright side, i do get a tv tuner and 12 cell battery with the dv4t.
-
With the 2.66GHz C2D and nVIDIA G105M this model has exactly the same performance as the dv4t I took a look at here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=373173
Would I go for the dv3t over the dv4t? Hmmm, lets see:
PROS: dv3 is the smallest HP notebook with a built-in optical drive
PROS: It's only slightly smaller and lighter than the dv4t
CONS: the dv3t doesn't provide a 12-cell battery option - the dv4t does.
CONS: the dv3t doesn't let me swap the optical drive for a 2nd hard drive - the dv4t does.
CONS: the dv3t doesn't have the xb4 docking station connector - the dv4t does.
CONS: the dv3t doesn't have the built-in TV tuner and modem - the dv4t does.
CONS: the dv3t only has an Express Card 34 slot - the dv4t has an Express Card 54 slot.
For maximum battery run-time on a single charge - the dv4t with 25W CPU, LED display, integrated graphics and 12-cell battery is still the champion. Considering the sacrifice in features, I'd say the dv4t is better equipped and still the better choice for many.
But if I had to walk around all day and lug one in my hand without a case or notebook bag, I'd pick the dv3t with the 6-cell in place of the dv4t with 12-cell. And if you carry a spare 9-cell with you, the dv3t will run somewhat longer than the dv4t does with one 12-cell. Food for thought. -
Regarding the battery life, I think the DV3 with the 9-cell will last longer than the DV4 with the 12? I mean, at least according to HP...
Don't forget it has a backlit keyboard and the LED/Infinity display. To a guy who loves shiny things, those are pretty big.
I am going to end up getting the DV4, primarily due to the inclusion of the expansion port 3 and the ability to use a 2nd hard drive, as I am eventually going to be getting an SSD and want to have the extra storage...
But man, that backlit keyboard and led/infinity screen are really really making this hard on me... lol. -
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
i put my money on the 12 cell dv4t
the screen size difference is not that much to make a big impact, so the three extra cells (12 vs 9) would definitely make dv4t last longer. -
-
what a potentially powerful laptop in such small form factor
-
This laptop looks awesome- hopefully it'll be available in Canada. But I'm a bit confused about the backlit keyboard. Everything seems to indicate that it has one, but I was configuring one on the hp shopping website and the only keyboard option was the regular HP Color Matching Keyboard. Is the backlit keyboard standard with all or just not currently available from the hp shopping website?
-
wondering how long it will take to arrive in Europe...
-
With the forth coming Windows 7 I don't understand why HP didn't put in a touch screen.
-
-
I tried both colours, but neither seem to have the backlit keyboard option on the hp shopping US website. HP canada doesn't even have the computer listed yet.
-
strange, for some reason tghe black one doesn't have the option anymore for backlit keyboard,hp needs to wake up
-
-
Its advertised as having backlit keyboard however i cant seem to configure one with the feature... neither white nor black unit shows the option as ba keyboard. Only Color Matching keyboard.
-
-
so anyone ordered this yet ? I'm waiting for a review
-
I might just be plunking down cash on one of these if HP decides to offer the T9900, P9700 or P9800 processors as options in the coming weeks.
Mind you, I wouldn't mind seeing a P9900 come out from Intel - 3.06GHz at 25W sure would light my fire! Then again a Clarksfield notebook would too.
Decisions Decisions... -
I am afraid of dv3t GPU overheat...
any idea? -
wow!!
by 150$ discount, the dv3t is available only at 649$ with basic configuration!
that's fantastic... -
With that current $400 off coupon, this laptop is a really good deal. Think I may just order mine today.
-
I wonder if a 12-cell battery can fit in the dv3t.
-
I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on one, a $400 discount is very nice, can config one with higher cpu and better gpu for no charge
I'm just uncomfortable buying without any review yet, because my relatives in US will have to get it, then I gotta pick it up and bring it back to canada, so return isn't an easy option here. -
If you're worried, I'd stick with the dv4t series. If you search a bit in the dv4t official thread, you'll see cons outweigh the pros comparing the 3t with the 4t. I'd say if battery life if important, an extra .2 pounds and a 1" increase in screen size with a 12 cell battery (dv4t) is better than the same price with a 9 cell and slightly more portability (dv3t). Just my thoughts.
-
Yeah, tell it to my gf
once a woman is set on something, forget about changing her mind, lol. 13'' is what she wants and all she cares about is the size and the color, lol, I gotta make sure everythig else is ok and is working ok.
-
Where is the backlit keyboard? I don't see it on the model, both black or white. And people have said they had the option like a week ago.
-
they did, a black one did on the beginning, now none of them have it for past week, best to call and ask directly
-
Maybe they ran out of stock and demand was too high (like the Dell Studio 1555 GPU), and will come back soon.
What do you think?
I still say the dv4t is a good choice though, because you get a better battery for literally the same price. -
The dv3t is great if you need portability and CPU/GPU performance, since it comes with the same top-end options as the dv4t at a smaller size. The dv4t does offer a few other features, but I don't need those for the size/weight that the dv3t gives me.
I'm waiting to pull the trigger on a white dv3t, once HP offers those new CPU options Intel introduced in February. I'm looking at either a 3.06GHz T9900 or a 2.8GHz P9700. My gut feeling says a 3.06 dual-core should give better performance than a Q9000. (The Q9100 and QX9300 HP offers for the HDX18 are a ripoff)
I know the dv3t doesn't take the 12-cell, but two 9-cells will beat that by hours, and if I need more juice I can always throw in a 3rd battery in a 13" case - no big deal. -
It's kinda weird. The DV3Z starts at 4.35lbs but the DV3T starts at 4.95lbs. That's half pound of difference! I wonder if this is down to the slot-loaded drive available on the Z model. Can anyone explain?
-
-
Hey!
Has anyone seen a review for the new dv3t yet? If so, please post url here!

I have been reading these forums quite a bit the past few days trying to make a decision on which laptop to buy. My girlfriend and I finally decided on the dv3t. We mostly wanted a small and portable laptop that still had a little performance behind it. I think this model will fit our needs nicely, plus the $400 coupon doesn't hurt either. She was particularly interested in the backlit keyboard option, but as others have mentioned, it is not available right now. I even called the HP sales hotline to find out if they knew anything. The representative explained that they have no idea if and when the backlit keyboard will be available again. She even put me on hold for some time to check with her supervisor about it, and they did not have further details. However, she did make a note on my account that I was interested in that option for the dv3t. Apparently if they do offer it again in the next 21 days, I can send the laptop back and get it replaced for no extra charge. Not really counting on that, but it would be cool.

I do wonder...
Is battery life really that important in a university? Speaking on this topic, I have been skeptical between the dv3t and dv4t, purely because of what batteries are offered. The 12 cell in the dv4t will have an enhancement of 1.5-2 hours over the 9 cell on the dv3t. However, don't most classroom environments have plenty of on-desk outlets?
It's mainly a struggle between portability and battery life. It might be a minuscule difference in weight and size, but doesn't that matter when traveling across campus?
I would like some input to justify my (and possibly others') debate on choosing either the dv3t or dv4t series.
Thanks a bunch. -
1- weight is golden. The less you have to haul around the better. I would choose the dv3t with a 9-cell over the dv4t with a 12-cell any time.
2- battery time is something you can throw money at, as in buy a 2nd (or 3rd) battery. If you've got a notebook case, it will matter little if you have a 9-cell or 12-cell stashed in there.
3- if I wanted the run time of two 12-cells I would get a dv3t and three 9-cells. More flexible since I have both the extra juice and a smaller/lighter notebook.
When folks ask me what notebook to get for running around with, I always recommend the notebook with the least weight, because weight is something you cannot take away once you have it. A friend of mine just got a Sony TT. He keeps two spare 9-cell batteries and the TT in a compact netbook case that he can run around with all day and still be productive for hours. Had he chosen a larger notebook with a bigger battery, he would still have needed a second battery to get the same run time, and he would be toting around a bigger case and more weight.
