My hp dv3z notebook's ac adapter is starting to go a bit

When i unplug my notebook to move to another location and plug it back in, it doesn't charge. Sometime setting it down or knocking on the power brick causes it to resume but it doesn't always work. I have two generic adapters on order from amazon for cheap but any suggestions on what to do with the existing unit?

Toss it out. If you unit was still under warranty, HP would send you a bew one for free. Just describe your issue to them. They wouldn't even require you to send the old one back.
