Is there anyone that can suggest what programs can be removed that are considered useless and simply slowing down a new machine? Also, any help as to how to remove would be helpful unless its simply going into add/remove programs....

I've also noticed a noisy CPU as in the clicking sound when a laptop is working....but this is brand new and the clicking starting upon set up? Is this normal for a new laptop with a P8400 2.26ghz process and 4mb of ram (sorry for the dup question elsewhere.....newb)

Thanks and hope to return the favour once im up and running...

    N

    List your programs instsalled.

The clicking sound your speaking of could be your hard drive as CPU's dont make noise.

I have the same exact model. The noise you speak of is the hard drive, not the CPU. It was bothering me as well, I was rather surprised that the hard drive clicks so much but it's bearable. It only does it on start up for a few minutes and then it stops.

As far as removing programs, I pretty much removed anything made by HP. I did a clean Vista install and the only things I reinstalled were HP quickplay and obviously the drivers but no other HP software at all.

I'd personally remove anything that has HP in front of it except HP quickplay and HP quicklaunch buttons (but you might want to update these through the HP site because a newer version is available). I'd take out the Norton and Symantec stuff unless you plan on purchasing the full versions of the software.

However, if you're not much of a techie then leaving all the HP bloatware may help you out in case you run into some kind of problems. I never cared for it and I'm generally disgusted with the crap HP loads on their laptops but it might be helpful to some people.
