    Hello folks,

I seem to have a little problem with my 3 months old laptop./

This started very recently. It's rare thing, but sometimes when I boot up my laptop, it runs slow.

Not very very slow. But yes, it runs slow for me to notice. I can notice it when I play games too. I have to reboot my laptop so that it runs normally.

Any idea why this would happen? It's a rare thing, but it does get frustrating.

I noticed this problem after I removed the pre-installed Norton software and installed a full version of Norton.

    Any ideas why this happens?

    Have you disabled scheduled defragmenting?
Can you check your CPU usage in Task Manager?

AHH Norton.... That explains it all. its cpu and resource hungry, and likes to update a lot. I would change it out for something like AVG 8 Pro

    Reason 1:Norton
Reason 2:All other trash that HP stuffs the laptop with..

If you do a clean Vista install then I am sure your problem will go away.

I hope you have used the Norton Removal Tool 2009.0.0.41 to remove Norton rather than just uninstall it.

Norton is the biggest problem you might have.

Also, make sure you are not running programs u don't need or have them installed. HP gives u alot of bloat ware

I am using my HP DV5-1155ee with 0 problems after I have uninstalled everything I dont need and did a registry clean up using RegScrubXPVista

Hmm thanks for all the info guys.

My CPU usage is around 20-25% when idle.

When I experience the sluggishness again I shall check out the CPU usage.

ALso, I will wait to see if the sluggishness goes away without having to restart.

I'm positive the random sluggish performance is being caused by something scheduled running in the background.

I will also check my processes if the sluggishness happens again and update you guys.

What are your temps when you have the sluggish problem. Check the temps. HW Monitor from CPUID is free and may be used to monitor temps.
