    I doubt it, that's a 16:9 you're wanting. The dv5 could only house a 16:10 ratio screen.

Fortunately, I was able to buy a dv5t before they stopped making them on HP's website. I have the Infinity Display with 1680x1050.

If you want, Dell offers a 1920x1200 RGB LED monitor for the 17" Studio laptop.

I was even thinking about selling my notebook, but doubt I'll get anywhere near what I purchased it for.

Dude, do the math. 1920x1200 is 16:10, 1920x1080 is 16:9. The HP dv5 series uses 16:10 screens.

I'd like to replace my 1680x1050 screen with a 1920x1200 as well, and it looks like Dell has a couple 15" 1920x1200 screens. But it's anybody's guess whether it's compatible.

It's very unlikely for a Dell display to work in the HP. You can hardly find two compatible displays on two series of laptops from the same manufacturer, let alone on a laptop from a different brand. The connector on the cable differs. Why? Exactly so you can't do what you just mentioned.

Besides, a 15.4" 1920x1200 would have really really small fonts, and the GPU of the DV5 won't be able to handle it in 3D at native resolution. Not even if you get the 9600M GT.

Font sizes can be adjusted, and I'm a software developer, I don't use any 3D graphics so that really doesn't matter to me.

But yeah you're right, chances are pretty low that any of those screens would be compatible. And at the couple hundred $$ it would take to find out, a rather expensive experiment.

Yeah font sizes can be adjusted, in theory. In practice it tends to mess up every non-Microsoft application. :p
