So I've tried out a few DV5s at Best Buy, Staples, etc, and they all seem to have exceptionally sticky touchpads. Anyone else have this issue, and if so, have a proposed solution?

That was my biggest hesitation in ordering my dv5t. I *did* find it
to be quite sticky, which is a result of the very smooth, shiny surface.
HP really should have made it slightly textured, like the Dell Studio,
which has a much better touchpad.

I will be using mine most of the time with a Logitech mouse, so the
touchpad issue isn't a big deal with me.

Whether you find it sticky or not depends on whether your fingertips are softer/more wet. Personally, I like the smooth, glossy-ness of the touchpad. My fingers are usually dry and I had no issues using such a touchpad for the past two years. But I do agree that if your hands are a bit wet the touchpad doesnt work well.

Maybe the stickiness is from parents bringing in 10 year old kids with grimey hands who were messing around with the touchpads :D

One of my friends owns one, and he is experiencing the same issues. I guess it's not a deal breaker, but it's a tad annoying.

Maybe some company will come out with a product for it--a piece of plastic or something with a textured surface, but still thin enough to use the touchpad. Just speculating.

Alienware actually does that - the touchpad surface of their m15x notebook is glossy like the HP's, but they send a textured sticker you can put on top of it.

I wonder if it would be possible to make a DIY version of that sticker . . .
