hi i'm from singapore and below are the specs of the 2 notebooks. both have roughly the same specs. so i'm in a dilemma on which one to get. ram and hdd space doesn't apply much to me as ram can easily be upgraded and i'm going to get an external hdd. which is better?

    HP DV5-1036TX - MSI GX620
    SGD$2,599 - SGD$2,588
    2.53Ghz (P9400) - 2.54Ghz (P9500)
    3GB - 4GB
    320GB - 500GB
    15.4" - 15.4"
    Vista HP - Vista HP
    9600M GT - 9600M GT
    1.3MP - 2.0MP
Altec Lansing speakers - 7.1 Dhoby Approved
Blue Ray DVD, LS Drive - DVD Super-Multi / Blueray
    6-cell - 9-cell
    1 yr int - 1 yr int
    2.65kg - 2.7kg

let me know if any of the specs above are incorrect.

Well when you are buying a laptop the specs are the most important.
However if the laptop has known issues(which the gx620 does not) then you may want to get something else.

you may want to consider how good the display is on each particular notebook. That is something I always consider first.

You might find the HP 9600M GT comes with DDR2 graphics memory whereas the MSI 9600M GT uses the faster DDR3 memory.

AFAIK the HP machine supports up to 8GiB of RAM but the MSI states up to 4GiB.

Probably a good idea to read some forums for the particular models to see what sort of problems you may run into.

Which operating system(s) are you likely to run, HP only seems to offer Vista drivers for the DV series.

How hot does the machine run, how noisy is it?

Do you require hardware virtualization and does your notebook and BIOS support it?

What options are available in the BIOS?

Do you have a return policy?

What is the service support like?

Whichever notebook you get there will probably be something you don't like about ;)
