I own and updated with a bluetooth for this device but with the latest bios it still will not enable the bluetooth as the wireless assistant shows the bluetooth but is disabled. I read other places where the firmware doesn't have a support for the bluetooth device but the service manual listed that part and there is a connector for it as well. So did anyone find a way to get the bluetooth working?

Reflash the BIOS. But be careful. Run the BIOS program as adminstrator with no other programs running. Best is right after boot up and the system is settled. Then use HP wireless assistant to turn it on/off.

To which version the latest f.21? How do you mean be careful? I flashed BIOS before with power plugged in and battery in but not sure what you mean be careful? And you sure this will enable the Bluetooth device? I think the bios was flashed to F.21 on this before I got the bluetooth device afterwards. But I do know on my dv4 the bluetooth does work but with their own BIOS update.

Carelessly flashing the Bios using the software is if it were like any other is what usually leads to bricked machines. SO follow the steps I laid out to minimize such an occurance. And yes, flashing the BIOS will get it to recognize the newly installed BT board. You can use the latest F21.

ok I try that again because when I first flash to F.21 the bluetooth wasn't installed but I will tray again with the bluetooth installed. You think that will recognize the bluetooth device and enable the device??

Well I reflashed as admin with F.21 rev.A and the bluetooth not still enabled...still disabled...so I think til they come up with a new firmware to allow the bluetooth to work it just doing nothing sitting in there.

On bootup, go into your BIOS. Don't do anything except save settings and exit.

    When you get into windows:

    Click Start
    Type services.msc then press Enter
Locate Bluetooth service and Start it and keep it Automatic
    Click Ok/Apply

It should then recognize the device and load a driver for it. if not, then install the HP wireless assistant to turn it on. If it's already installed, reinstall it. Then check to see if bluetooth service is started as illustrated above.

I read other places where HP has disabled the bluetooth for that particular DV5 models and unless there is a firmware that allows the device to turn on there not much the consumers can do at this point in time.

Nah, I installed it on mine. I just wish I wrote the steps down somewhere. Lemme look in my stash of old notes. Maybe something there that I missed and failed to tell you.

Also, for full disclosure sake, I'm running a modified BIOS that does a bunch of cool things. Among the things it does is enables advanced menus features like legacy IDE, disables the wifi radio whitelist, SLIC... anyway, you can find it in the original DV5 owner's thread. It's towards the end of the thread. I posted it. Use the owner's manual sticky link in this section to find the thread, then go back about 20 pages or so from the last and you'll find my post in there. Modified F.21

Though, I got the BT to work before that. So lemme look in my stash...

BTW, the hardware ID for my BT is:
    USB\VID_03F0&PID_171D&REV_0100
    USB\VID_03F0&PID_171D

Edit: Can't find anything of value in my notes. It might literally be that it worked with the modified BIOS since it knocks out the whitelist of radios that HP puts in devices. So you might want to install that BIOS. It adds a lot of cool features and was custom made for me by a genius over on another forum. If that doesn't solve your problem...

    T = Intel, Z = AMD

DV5T = models with Intel processor. So if you have an Intel CPU, you're good to go. :)

Yes have Intel to go.... thanks I try it later this weekend when I have time to try. But this should allow me the use of my bluetooth right? It shows as disabled in the HP tool assistant. Where can I find how to OC a T8100 or should I just leave it at the current clock setting?

I regret not taking notes when I did it and how I did it. I'm usually habitual about such things because I would rather give you a definitive answer than an educated* guess. But considering all the other lockouts the BIOS mod undoes, it would seem reasonable. Especially considering HP whitelists any and all RF devices they install to be in compliance with various international laws where they sell their kit.

And let's say that after you install this BIOS mod (remembering to follow earlier mentioned precautions to lessen the chance of brickage), and it doesn't work right away; you can try the battery out, AC out, hold the power button for 30 secs the plug AC back in and boot up trick and it may recognize after that.

If it doesn't work in the end of any other trouble shooting attempts, I would need to see a picture of your BT radio and the cable leading to and from it. My BT board has a little white LED that when on barely shines through the grill area forward of the area where the power button is.

And let's say, it turns out that you have an incompatible BT card, I might have a spare one laying about that I could send you. You'd just have to pay shipping if you're far otherwise, it'll be on me. (Don't you have a birthday coming up? :D )

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...c-acceleration-ida-both-cores-core-2-duo.html ;) brilliant stuff. I'm running a T9800 @ 3.0Ghz in my DV5T.

*on educated guess... translation, "I forgot how I did it, but whatever I did, it works. And it wasn't bought with BT installed."

Ok I give it a try this coming Monday when I am off for Presidents day and use Admin install and go from there. I should take a picture of the layout where the bluetooth and specs are but man it was a learning curve figuring out how to take it apart to being with as well. And haven't taken apart since then but I have taken apart my DV4 to clean and install the T8100 in them and bluetooth of which works with the latest BIOS update from HP go figure. I think I recall seeing something close or resembling that but I be sure when I take it apart and hopefully in it's location can take a photo of it. And what numbers to you need from besides MAC but the model and maker right to see if that is the right one?

OK took apart the laptop after flashing the new mod bios and no bluetooth. Then took apart laptop and looked at Bluetooth number and it would seem is for a AMD based board not Intel... what a drag. I have to buy the Intel version of the bluetooth and try again with the modded BIOS and see if I get to have a bluetooth device.

    483113-001 Intel based bluetooth
    and
    412766-002 AMD based

later was the installed device will have to find a Intel version part number and try again. I guess there is something different internally from what one can see that prevents cross usage.

I looked for my spare one earlier and found that I sold it on ebay a few years back. Otherwise, I would have just sent it to you. But, I'm going to see if my brother, who collects more parts than me, might have one. I'll let you know later tonight.

Edit: gave him a call and sorry to say, but he doubts he has one. Sorry about that my friend. Wish you luck in your search. Though, it wouldn't seem that a version of the board for AMD would matter. I wonder what the difference could be?

I found one on ebay and will later this week order it and see if that works better. Guess everything is a learning curve but thanks for trying on your side. And I checked the service manual and the cable is the same just the device is different and I will get one order later next week and try again and hopefully this time I order the right piece. Otherwise it's a working bluetooth device but for a AMD chipset. I guess they made enough changes to it to prevent cross usage. But I think that hurts the upgrade process instead of helping it.

I ordered one for the dv5t intel version based:

    New HP Pavilion dv5 1000 dv5 1200 Series Bluetooth 2 0 483113 001 | eBay

But after installing with the wire that fits both the AMD and Intel bluetooth it still shows as disabled and this is with the modified bios that flashed with. So I am at a lost as to what to do to even get a bluetooth to work if possible? Don't know what else to do now?

Now that you have the right BT board in there, try a reflash with the mod BIOS so it can register that it's part of the system now.

Shoot I sent it back not knowing and the seller told me to send it back...darn....I will try again another day ....

Odd story is the my DV6t has a AMD version of the bluetooth number part and it works? How can that be? Was the DV5t model hardwired or something to not accept a bluetooth not from the factory or something?

Just thought I reupdate this posting and to inform the poster helping me that the bluetooth that I ordered and returned was found to be mislabeled for the wrong laptop it was for a dv5000 they told me not a dv5-1000 unit. So I guess I have to relooked the service manual and see if I can locate the right bluetooth unit.

That looks like one I got off eBay as well but it didn't work so I had to return it. But the Service manual list this as the part number for Intel based chipset: 483113-001 that is the part number for the bluetooth module. I did finally buy a bluetooth dongle for use on my M$ Bluetooth 5000 mouse and so far I can live with that setup. But I will revisit this again at a later time to see if I can find the matching part number again. I did find it once on eBay but didn't think to buy it at that time and lost out. But thanks for trying...I keep that pic in mind when looking again.
