hi guys, since alot of u hvnt been able to overclock ur dv5t and i have, i though il just make a new thread to help u guys, oh yea just an early warning, do not set the memory clocks above 575, im using 570mhz cuz its stable for my laptop, oh and for those curious of what happens above that, 600mhz will crash ur laptops display driver every 2 seconds and 640mhz the max on evga precision will freeze ur dv5t and show wierd wierd things on ur screen :D

note: use BIOS version F.05 Release Date 20080608

the programs i use are EVGA precision, Rivatuner 2.20 (but i carried over from 2.11), and powermizer, the driver i use is DOX's custom 180.70 (thanks to him for making an awesome driver :p), il post the downloading links on the bottom of this guide >_>

first off, download and install DOX's 180.70, shouldnt be that hard as its only like clicking buttons lol, if u cant do that then i dont think u should go ahead with overclocking :p

secondly, download and install EVGA precision, rivatuner 2.20 and powermizer switch if u hvnt already got em

third, go to rivatuner and do the following -> Power user, scroll down until u see RivaTuner\NVIDIA\Overclocking, expand on that and change the value of EnableLowPower3DControl to 1, EnablePerfLevelForcing to 1 and UseAlternateStartupDaemon to 1 and press apply/ok

now go to the main menu of rivatuner and where is says driver settings under that there should be a a box with the writing next to it that says customize, click it and click the very left picture that pops up (system settings), once in there go to force constant performance level and choose performance 3d, now click on apply/ok

now open EVGA precision and start editing those clocks as u wish :D , oh yea and dont forget to click on the "apply at windows startup"

after that open powermizer switch and turn both powermizers off (u can keep it if u like but that would reduce performance, i used A/C off and Bat on) it will prompt a restart so do so..

have fun with ur overclocks now :D, if it doesnt work with ur dv5t then..well...i dont know >_<, this is my first laptop so i dont have extreme computer knowledge..lol, all i know is that it worked with my dv5t and im just sharing it with the world how i did it :p

    my clocks:
    Core clock - 640mhz
    Shader clock - 1280mhz
    Memory clock - 570mhz

    RivaTuner v2.20

sorry guys i dont have the link for the powermizer switch :(

heres a picture of how it should look in rivatuner, evga precision and gpu-z

and heres my score in 3dmark 06

    sorry if this guide is abit noob, as its 2am in the morning and im really tired :( , maybe a mod or something might fix this up ;_;

Dude, awesome. I was thinking about getting a dv5 but concerned about the GDDR2. Seems the extra mem clocks really opens this baby up!!!

Nice one and thank you so much! DV5 here we come!!!!!

Could Leetpix somehow extract his BIOS and share it with the rest of us? I think that would solve all our problems.

The GPU Bios is integrated into the system BIOS.
So we need his entire BIOS.

    @LeetPix,
Did HP leave the overclocking option open in your BIOS?...Because this seems to be the first bios released for a dv5t.

    3dmark score:5254
The score difference of 101 is probably due to your P8400....
Again,Great work and thanks a lot!
Temp has hit a max 85 during 3dmark06.Is it safe to run at those clocks?

depends on what u think is safe, i run at around 75-84c while gaming for a couple of hours, but its usually at 78-82c most of the time, try and raise the back of the laptop abit..put something the size of a deck of cards on 2 of the back rubber holder things on the laptop, that lowers it by around 5c , anything below 90c is safe for me =p

dox's drivers are faster and are more optimized so i use it to get more fps and detail when i play games , powermizer is sometimes the cuase for laptops to just suddenly downclock, but if u wanna just overclock it, just use rivatuner and evga precision..i wanna milk out every single fps i can get out of my laptop

If you force high performance on rivatuner, it won't downclock.

I'm saved the settings in rivatuner. I plan to use 200/400/200 everyday. When I play games, I'll go to rivatuner and use the overclocked profile of 640/1650/570.

My idle temperature dropped from 66 to 61 really fast after I downclocked.

nah, its driver limited i think, ive tried entering a number higher than those of the slider, it just resets to the sliders max :(, the only thing that u cant overclock anymore is memory clock, i still think if i could go above the limit in EVGA precision, i could go to around 700/1600/570

I ran my benchmark at 1280*1024 resolution, which will give me lower scores in comparison to your 1280*800.
    I also use a P7350 processor.

These clocks are unstable and FIFA 09 froze while I started a match.I got a black screen and the computer become completely unresponsive...which certainly indicates that these clocks are not stable.I had to press and hold the power button to shut it down..
ATi tools would be a good choice to test for any artifacts...will try it..

I made 2 profiles in rivatuner. One underclocked and one overclocked. I save the underclocked one as my startup settings. Whenever I play a game, I would overclock manually in rivatuner.
