Hi guys, hopefully someone can help me or explain why this happened.

I live in the northeast. Unexpectedly we got a snow storm and I left my laptop in my backpack in my car for 6 hours. I didn't realize how cold it was going to get. I got laptop just now and it won't boot. It reaches the HP screen, the hard drive looks at as if its going to boot and after about 3 light flashes, everything stops working.

I press F10 to get in bios, it doesn't go in, it just hangs. I press ESC to get to the start up menu, same thing.

What did I damage here? My hard drive, motherboard?

    Any suggestions or solutions?

Please help! I have important files here I need for my accounting classes until the semester ends.

    Edit:

    I forgot to mention.

I removed the battery to just use my plug in outlet to see if battery was damaged, same thing occurs.

You might want to see if you are getting a LED Error code. Does the LED blink a number of times then stop...?

Check here for the dv5t codes...

you did mention that the LED blinks 3 times which tells me there is a memory issue.

Blink: 3 - Caps Lock/Num Lock Memory Module error not functional

I would suggest to remove the memory and re-install. This can be done by removing the back memory panel.

The light I was referring to was the hard drive capacity indicator. Sorry I wasn't clear.

I remove and readjusted the memory anyway to try but still no.

When I turn the laptop on, there's a low clicking sound that clicks for 15 seconds and stops. I was thinking a bad sector on the hard drive but from my experience the hard drive would not stop if it was that?

    Update:

Removed the hard drive and tried booting it just to see if the clicking was there.

So it still boots the same without the hard drive, guess it's not the hard drive, and the clicking is still there. Anyone have any ideas at all what this could be? Video card?

I have the same problem here, can't get into the bios and can't get past the 'hp invent' screen.
