I have only had my HP DV5T for 2 months, and already I have a problem. The screen flickers every couple of seconds. Sometimes half the screen goes completely black, and sometimes there are black horizontal lines. When it goes black, it stays black for about 1 or 2 seconds then goes back to normal. Sometimes the screen dissipates slowly and fades away to a white screen, and then comes back. What do you think the problem is? What can I do if anything, to solve it? When sending HP notebooks in for repair, does HP take a long time to return it? Thanks.

Mine has started flickering as well. I noticed it last night for the first time, but it did it for a bit today too while I was watching a movie. Have you contacted HP yet? If so, what did they say?

I have not contacted HP yet because I'm in Graduate school, and I need this laptop until the end of the semester. In the event that the problem worsens, then I will have no choice but to contact HP and send it in for repair before December. I'm a little disheartened because I haven't even had this laptop for 3 months yet and I'm already experiencing difficulties. :(

I've had the same problem. And my girlfriend who's also has the same laptop (DV5T) has the same problem. it seems that it's some manufacturing ptoblem. Maybe someone from HP can take responsibility for that issue.

I've given it to repair at HP, and they said that the screen and the screen cable needs to be replaced.

If anyone hears something about that, please contact me:

    Thanks,
    Sagi

My laptop is currently in at HP in Tennessee for the same problem. There's more info over at the official dv5t owner's thread, somewhere in the page range of 388 to current.

Can you post a link to go to the owner's thread which you've mentioned?

    Thanks,
