I believe the vents underneath the notebook suck air up into them and blow the air out of the back. (At least it's like that on my notebook and my friends Dv5z.)

I will just name the parts in relation to the numbers... :p Just to make them easier to identify.

18 - Main and only fan of dv5t, definitely needs cooling.
10.9 - related air vent for the main fan.
    Dead centre- RAM
    17.5 - HDD
2.25 - Should be wireless card.

Wireless modules tends to get alittle warm. The bluetooth module might be there too.

The wireless card is actually under the hard drive.

2.25 is actually an extra Mini-PCI slot (I think if you have the TV tuner that is where it might be be) and the system battery (the small battery)

After checking the service manual...indeed. Weird place to put the wireless card. And from the manual, there really isnt anything under the left palm rest except for the expresscard.

The GPU is under/near the left Palm rest. Right around location 10.9.

The CPU and GPU heatsink is screwed into the top of the chassis right around the left hand side of the keyboard.

I would assume that some of the heat from the GPU is transferred to the top chassis (AKA left palm rest). Thus creating the "sweating palm" issue... :D

This is only true for the 9200m and 9600m GPU.
