Hi I'm starting this topic to answer mine and possibly other posters questions on the memory for dv5t and dv7t.
Now I purchased a dv7t with 3gigs of memory (the 3gig upgrade was free). I was going to replace the 1gig stick with a 2gig stick from newegg. The upgrade from 3gig to 4 gig on HP is like $100 more. I saved the $50 and upgraded my screen instead. I understand that 2gig sticks run $45+ on newegg. Although I'm unsure what speed I should buy. Now i could wait 2 more weeks and check the laptop for myself, but I'd like to upgrade it the day I receive it. Also I told the sales rep that I was going to upgrade with aftermarket anyway. He said that HP uses corsair memory.
Options:
DDR2 533 (PC2 4200)
DDR2 667 (PC2 5300)
DDR2 667 (PC2 5400)
DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
I came to love this forum while waiting nearly 2 months for the new dv release. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

I remember reading in one of the other threads that it was DDR2 800, wish HP would specify and make it easier for everyone.

I've been looking at this model which seems to have the highest ratings on newegg, only a few negative comments regarding rare DOA's. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145172
Also the dv7t can read upto 8gigs of ram. Now I can't even see any 4gig laptop memory sticks. I would guess to stick with HP specs and the dv7t memory type might just be 667... anyways upgrading would still save me a little over $50.. -
Buy the 800mhz RAM. Regardless if it was 667, a 800mhz RAM will just downclock
All you had to do was check CPU-z -
I talked to a tech support guy about this. I'm buying the dv7t also. He said the max supported speed is 800 mhz, which is good, cuz thats the fastest DDR2. Here is what I'm going to buy.

I think it is best to have two matching RAM moduals for dual channel. The total price for me is like $70 for these two sticks. Stupid NY now charges tax on internet purchaces!!! Gotta love 8% Taxes here in the good ol' NY. -
Yeah I was just thinking about changing to the 800 mhz but I was unsure if dv7t could support it. I guess I could take my 2gig stick from dv7t and put it in my tx1000.

The dv5t and the dv7t are both based on the new Intel 'Montevina' Centrino 2 platform, and support up to DDR2-800 as the CS rep noted.\
DDR2-667 will still work, however.
