    So I bought an HP DV5t last december. How can i tell what DVD burner it has and what the brand is?

    Look in device manager (in control panel) and you should see it there. :)

    It says HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50L
    Is that some sort of brand?

    HL-DT-ST = Hitachi LG Data Storage. So it's an LG. Not bad, not too good either, it's an average drive.

    Yeah that's the same as the one I've got here. It also comes with Lightscribe support. Make sure you install the firmware update for the drive :) I recall it being version SC05. It is on the HP support site.
