It started 2 days ago after around 8 months of casual use. I've no idea what it is, but it gets loud. I can feel whatever is to the left of the touchpad (below the keyboard) pulsing.

I called technical support; they seem to think it is a software issue. I got a message this morning saying that there is a problem with one of the cooling fans which I haven't managed to replicate since then.

Anyone else have this issue? It's very annoying - and it seems like HP is doing everything they can to keep me from shipping in this notebook (despite my 2 year extended warranty).

The only thing on your left side that can cause movement is your HDD. The pulsating thing you feel is probably caused by increasing fragmentation of the stored data so the read/write head have to swing back and forth.

Try to defragment the HDD and see if it makes any difference.

How loud can it get? It's a loud, pulsing, buzzing roar. I tried both HD checks and it passed. I'll try to defrag the HD when I get home.

    Thanks btw.

I have been having some issues as well with this. I don't remember feeling the vibrating to the left of the touchpad with the laptop I sent back, it only started happening with the replacement I received but I just figured it might be the hard drive.

Does it go away when the dgfx [the radeon] is shut down?

Take the plastic cover off the HDD bay and put your ear up to it. Probably a bad HDD if its abnormal sounds, beside head noise.

    Repped for your help guys.

I defragmented the HD and the sound is gone - will post an update if it returns. If this is a sign of failure, I'd like HP to replace it sooner rather than later (although my warranty doesn't expire until next Summer).

The issue returned. I'm sending my laptop in to HP tomorrow. Ugh. For others having this issue, I'll post the diagnosis made by their technicians.

Mine vibrates a little and buzzes if i put my ear up to it. Its a combo of the fan and the HD. Dont worry about it.

I really think I have this same problem. I called HP about it before and they sent me a new hard drive. It is basically just as loud as before which made me think that maybe it was always this loud and somehow I didn't realize it till months after. It is a really irritating sound. I don't know if they just managed to send me another bad hard drive or something else internally is going wrong.

sucks you have to send it in for something as easily replaceable as a hard drive :/
